    RT Valve Velocity Increase...

    Hello All,
I just picked up a used RT Pro (Serial # in the mid 3 digits). It's been sitting for quite a while.
I've gone in and replaced all the seals oiled it up well and broke it in over a day of rec ball.

The Velocity spread over rapid firing is massive on this marker. I've had other RT valved mags (more than I can remember) and never had spreads like this (up to +30fps).

I'm using a crossfire preset high pressure tank and level 10.

Any way of bringing this valve under control and reducing the velocity spread?

Paul, Are you chronoing 3 rapid clearing, 1 shot over the chrono while holding the trigger back, and then 1 shot again over the chrono while holding the trigger back method to achieve your average FPS on your RT?

      Of course it works-its AGD

What is the actual output from the tank regulator? Maybe it is putting out a higher than normal pressure.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

Bang on 800psi, checked with two gauges.

Good paint/barrel match? My x-valve will do that with poorly matched or bad paint.

The paint wasn't "that" bad... barrel was slightly over bored (freak insert 0.687 with 0.684 paint).

Is the velocity climbing or just fluctuating? Fluctuating would be generally caused by inconsistent paint. Climbing velocity is a symptom of the retro valve recharge rate. A 30 fps increase is a bit unusual though, especially when using a level 10 bolt.

                It's increasing.
The most I ever saw in my old RT's was close to 10fps.
But this one, likes to climb... alot.
Anything I can replace (piston, spring pack) that might help or could this valve just be "like that"?

You can put a longer on-off pin in place. It will act as a restrictor of sorts, and reduce the recharge rate, which will keep the heat down and prevent the velocity climb. It defeats the purpose of the retro valve's rapid recharge though, although you may never notice the reduced effects under normal operation.

Use the longest stiffest bolt spring that will work on your level 10 bolt. That will increase the operating inside the chamber, thus reducing the pressure swing and also reducing the pressure differential between the tank and the chamber as well.

Your valve is just too fast. Not many guns have that problem. lol.

I think RT valves have the same regulator pin assembly with the orings and the little plastic washer like the x-valve. My x-valve was at its worst before I cleaned and lubed that assembly.
