help - 1st shot too fast

fairly new tac-one, x-valve, L10 tuned:

when i first gas it up & take a shot over the chrono, it's over 300 fps (even seen it up to 320 fps). the next shots ~280 or less (~280 holding trigger then quick shot, ~270 otherwise...)

also happens after letting marker rest while gassed up in-between games.

this symptom just started happening about 2 weeks ago. i haven't changed anything about the setup, and it wasn't doing this before...

i don't recall seeing any info. regarding this type of behavior on the forum - anyone have some thoughts as to what's going on?

p.s. tank reg. is PureEnergy 'Reactor' shimmed to output ~1150 psi.

You have a bad or leaking regulator seat oring. It is letting high pressure air to seep past the regulator and into the front chamber.

the valve (bought with the marker) is less than a year old - is this the type of thing covered by warranty?

[edit] i read the warranty: "Warranties do not cover wear items like bolts, sears, springs, spring packs, reg pistons, magnets, screws..." so i assume Reg. Seat wouldn't be covered either?


so, i hate to have to ask, but the Airgun Store is not very clear:

1) in the X-Valve Exploded thread, the part i probably need to replace is labeled #31 , right?

2) i know that 3 Reg. Seat O-rings come in the X-Valve O-Ring Replacement Kit, but which one of these parts kits is the proper one (in case someone wanted to order them separately)?:

AGD Part#000779; or
AGD Part#000844

another question:

when replacing, just use the oil to lube, or is this a location for grease?

even if grease is not to be used here, what type of grease is recommended for the reg. springs?

For lube, use a good quality synthetic air tool oil.

For grease, it isn't as important as it is only used to coat the spring to prevent rusting.

I wouldn't worry about warrantee just yet. If you have a leak, just replace the bad oring. Its cheaper than sending the valve back for warrantee. You should have a spare oring kit at all times anyway.

I have the opposite problem- my velocity is too low for the first shot. Not like 30 fps slower (as is normal for an X-valve), really slow. It goes about 5 feet. The next few shots are just fine, and will be fine until I don't shoot for ~5 minutes. My gun is a X-valved RT pro (LX, ULT) if that helps. Thanks a lot.

Sounds like a bolt stick issue. Remove the level 10 shims and use the largest carrier that doesn't leak. If that doesn't work, give the valve a good cleaning.

yes, sounds like it to me too - i had the same symptoms when i first got my marker. i "cured" mine by loosening the field strip bolt until it was just finger tight then ~1/4 more turn (i had it on WAY too tight at first).
