Let an airsmith do it for you. Send tanks to http://www.hydrotester.com to do this. $10.00 + shipping.

^ good call, cause ive seen some nasty do it yourself jobs

but if you must DIY i reccomend a padded vise and possibly a buddy to help twist it loose if its been LT'ed if not it should spin off pretty easy. make sure you remove guages cause those break pretty easy and take out the fill nipple as well and anything else that is in the way. when you reinstall the reg use just a little bit of BLUE loctight keep it away from the relief hole on the threads that helps seal the threads and its easy to break loose later on (some will argue this with me). you dont have to do the loctight but i say do it cause nothing worse than hurting/killing yr buddy or yrself cause you didnt get the reg tight enough and you unscrewed yr tank from the reg. gl either way

            no!

dont use anything on the threads!

They are not supposed to be locktited or thread taped, and should be clean and dry. the air pressure locks the threads in place. just make sure nothing gets into the tank and the threads are clean then screw it on. You need to make sure its on fully, I've scene people us a light application of strap wrench but you can also mount the reg to the gun and use the marker for a little leverage, just dont reef on it. the instructions from smart parts on my micro said not to even use a wrench, just screw it on. if you run into any forcefull resistance before it hits bottom, clean the threads and retry. dont use any oil, locktite or anything else, they are not designed for it and can cause problems or harm.

I just replaced a reg on my HPA tank. You can do it yourself without paying someone. Some regs may be easier to remove because they have a groove that you can fit a wrench around and unscrew. But for the ones with the round caps (e.g. Pure Energy), it might be easier if you have a bench-mounted vice. Wrap the reg with some cloth and lock it in a vice. Once secure, you can turn the tank and remove it from the reg. The installation process is just the same except in reverse. As the previous poster said, do not use any lubricant/sealant on the thread. I confirmed this with the tech guy at Pure Energy. The pressure in the tank will keep the regulator in place. Good luck.
