The only way to know for sure is to run air through it, but yes.... even when a fitting is "completely" screwed in, it still sticks out a lot. Macro fittings even moreso than stainless steel fittings. Once it gets to the point where it's giving you good resistence with a wrench, then it's tight enough. Tighten further only to get a the angle you want.
And yes... you shouldn't unscrew the fitting at all when you're setting it up. You should take it out, reapply tephlon tape or locktite, and then screw it in again. -
