Reg half wont screw in

I just got a parts kit so I took my valve apart for the first time and now I cannot get the back half to screw in and line up with the front half. Anyone know whats going on?

how old is your valve?

does it say A.I.R. on the side of the valve body?

Are you saying that the two halves will not screw together at all or when you screw it together you cant get the laser etching to line up. If its the laser etching not lining up that is somewhat normal so long its close.
