    Cutting Down My Feedneck

    Hey guys,
I have a classic body/feed and am wanting to cut down the feedneck a bit so it isn't so high.

How far can I cut this down without any negative effects? Can I go all the way down so that the elbow connection bumps up to the body? It has that small hole at the bottom of the feedneck-- should I make it so that is still open and not covered by the elbow?

    Suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Kyle

I am no expert on this, but I just did what you are looking to do. I have a direct feed body. I believe, and fee free to correct me if I am wrong, but the main reason why the feed is so long, is because it was designed to store a few paintballs in it, for those who don't have an agitating hopper. It allowed the balls to feed better, so if there was a jam in the loader, you have 4-5 shots in the feed tube, and hopefully after a few of thise shots, the jam will unjam. Now, that little hole in the bottom is just to see that you have paintballs there. I cut mine all the way down, so that when the elbow is on, there is only about a 1/4 inch between it and the body. I don't think there is a problem with covering the hole, but you may want to go with a transparent feedneck, so you can still see into the chamber. Good luck, and I will try to get pics of mine by the weekend so you can see what I did.

I'm pretty sure the hole is to allow any excess air up the feed tube from "bobbling" the balls too much. Probably keep that open. I can't say that I'd recommend it, but I can't see any other problems arising from it.

Great thanks. Have you noticed any problems since you cut yours down so far?

Well, I haven't used it yet. I figured if there was a problem with covering the hole, I will just drill a hole in the elbow. Other than that, as long as you are using an agitating hopper, the length of the feed tube should matter. BTW, I just used a Hacksaw to cut through it, left about an extra 1/16 of an inch and used a Dremmel to smooth out the top of the neck. You could also use a file to do this and some sand paper. One piece of advice, disassemble the marker and make sure you wash the body with soap and water when you are done with this. You don't want to get any metal shavings in the bolt or chamber. Good luck, and post some pics!!!

Used a saw to cut just over an inch off, then grinded it down with a file and some #400 sandpaper. Turned out great -- very happy. It really balances the gun out more.

              Thanks,

I did this earlier this year without many problems. What I did was cut it down so there was about 1/4"-1/2" of space extra to after the elbow would slide down to. This would ensure that no matter what elbow I used it would fit all the way snugly into the feedneck.

Here are some pictures of the project to give you an idea of how far down I cut. I also used a pipe cutter I picked up from Ace Hardware. Be sure to pick up some blue back sandpaper to sand down the inside of the feedneck too afterwards to get it smooth.

I did this too, although it didn't turn out as pretty as sup909's (and I don't have pictures).

I just took a hacksaw to the feedneck, cut off about an inch, and then used a dremel to polish off the sharpish edge.

And I cut down the feedneck so far that the plastic elbow thing pushes right up against the body, completely covering that little hole (which is used to vent air, btw). So, I just drilled a hole through the plastic elbow in the same place to allow air to vent.

It works great, and it cuts down my profile quite a bit!
