Best way to polish a polished SS body

    Hey guys,
I have a polished SS body on my classic mag here. One side if pretty nice and shinny, while the other side (hopper side) is pretty dull. Whats the best way to polish this thing to get it looking like a mirror all over? I'd also like to try and get the light surface scratches which are all over the body out as well.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

      Nice!

Also, can I polish my valve up as well without messing up the laser engravings on it? I'd like to get a nice shine out of it as well.

      Thanks again,
      Kyle

Not with the kind of shine in those pics. Search the forum for 'laser' and you should come up with some discussions about how durable they are. There are a few 'polishing' threads too. The etching comes up in 'anno' [dizing] discussions too. Anno requires some polishing.

I play at least half woodsball, so I generally don't do 'shiny' stuff for play, but I do minor gunsmithing and like to polish internal gun parts. All abrasive polishing is basically the same. The more levels of grit you have available the easier it will be. Having the largest polishing machine that fits the piece is good to. It looked like Tre had some practice in the car shop though, as he did his by hand (and elbow).

You might check and see if the aluminum and stainless keep their finish well after polishing. Besides being 'fingerprint magnets', aluminum is soft and scratches easily, and they will have different shades of oxidation layers so you will have to keep polishing your 'mirror'.

It does look sharp though. :)

Try that site, has doc telling you step by step how to do it. That site alone made me respect doc before i knew anything else about him.
