    power tube tip breaking???

I recently acquired a used automag, I barely got to shoot it (got it tuesday, didn't get to shoot it until late friday...) until the brass power tube tip broke. I was wondering how common this was, and also what all should be included in the area that broke, because when I took the bolt off the power tube things went everywhere. I retrieved a brass piece and a small o-ring...just wondering if that is everything. I still have the bumper. I don't want to undo the trade because I really like the gun...I'm just wondering why this happened and how I can make it not happen in the future...?

thanks in advance for your help...

      hi

First off, Welcom to AO! Hope you have a blast while being here.

I don't think the powertube tip breaking off is very common...sounds strange to me.

The brass piece is the PT (powertube) tip, the oring, i'm guessing is what went on the PT tip. There should be a PT spacer/spring and then another oring underneath that (when looking into the powertube part).

The difference in spacers is the size. There are spacer kits available. If your marker leaks down the barrel or has bolt stick, get a spacer kit and follow instructions.

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. And I hope I made myself clear

This same thing happened to my friend once. It was a looonng time ago. The powertube tip (the brass thing) had slowly come unscrewed from the rest of the powertube. It made the marker leak a whole lot from the barrel. He degassed, only to find the powertube tip unscrewed. He just put the spacer and o-ring back in, and screwed the tip back in. I think that after playing that day he put a little blue loctite on the threads, just to make sure that it never happened again... but I'm not sure, so don't quote me on that

Do you have the manual? If you do, and the problem is what I think it is, just replace the oring and spacer as it says in the manual, and screw the tip back in. If you don't have the manual, check out:

        for the online manual.

Also, if it is a more major problem, maybe AGD would like to take a look at it. If you have stars on your valve, you can get your valve rebuilt for free!

        Hope that helps!

Thanks guys for such fast responses. I've looked at the gun even more and the power tube tips has broken and not just come unscrewed...It broke right where the o-ring is at on that piece. It's really odd. I guess it's just from being used so much...it also has an electro frame added to it so that might be part of the problem as well. So now I'm going to go order the new part and hope it comes in soon...are there anythings I should look for for future problems?

          Thanks

Don't use the bumper that comes with that
e-frame. I had a boo-yah frame and the cheap plastic washer they gave me to replace my stock peice with was crap. I went through 3 powertube tips before I realized that the bumper they gave me was the problem. Just put the stock blue bumper back on.

Your problem is that electronic frame. It's a Boo-Yaah right? If so, they're known to cause the PT tip to unscrew itself and break. Also, some Mags were sent to Boo-Yaah to be fixed so to fix the gun they modified the valve so it would work with their sloppy tolerance valves. You can get the new parts and make it work for awhile, or you can ditch the frame and go back to mechanical and not have these kinds of problems. If somebody could actually make an electronic frame that worked right with Mags, there would be no problem. The only electronic Mag that works properly is called the E-Mag.
