Hey guys just wanted to know what yall thought about this issue. What are the Pro's and Con's of both markers, and in your opinion which one is the better of the two.
Cocker vs. Mag

hmmm, mags are oh so user friendly and are solid workhorses, now most are pretty slow though, but with the right mods a mag can scream
autocockers are more tinkerer friendly, but most stock cockers can shoot pretty fast and with the right amount of tuning you can walk a mech cocker, but like i said with the right ups a mag is walkable
they are really about the same in my book they are both solid guns -
'Cocker if you really like to tinker with the performance of your marker, 'mag if you just want your marker to perform.Comment

Don't you mean early 90s!Originally posted by drgWelcome to the late 90s! lol
Yeah Mags are a workhorse they just keep on ticking, whereas cocker's are very temperamental working flawlessly one weekend and turning into an expensive paint blender the next. Having said that i love all the cockers i own including my pride an joy.

I have own both.
autococker are a tinker gun, when thay dont work you have to start adjusting it,you have to start at step 1 to finish and you begain to learn how thay work and why thay stoped.
automag are a pull out bag gun, ready to go thay still have some problems like bolt stick and i can never find the cause of the problem.Comment

I own several of both as do most folks here I would think. I like the "ratchet, ratchet, ratchet" sound that the cockers make... Tis funny to listen to. I like the feel of the gun cycling. I shoot real guns and like the recoil. I'm not worried about feeling it or getting off target because of it just because I don't play that way.
My ONE main and biggest and most irritating thing about cockers is the ball detent deal. They have one... but that's only to prevent the hopper from unloading non-stop. When the bolt closes with the ball in the barrel if you don't have a choked down bore on the paint it just rolls out the barrel. And THAT IRRITATES THE CRAP OUT OF ME!!!!!
Now mags I love the single tube design, I love the quiet shot, I love the action of the gun and my biggest issue with them is they are bricks with the SS bodies on em, you have to use the plastic feednecks on the SS bodies you have to have lots of AIR to run em...
Those are the issues I have with both styles... Oh and Cockers can be funny getting tuned/timed right. Have to be careful adjusting the IVG AND the REG at one time....

That's one of the nicest Cockers I have seen. Right up there with mid blocked Karnis and the Xoniks.Originally posted by Sajjad
It really comes down to preference. Which one feels better to you. Me I find I'm a bit of an old school persona. I like em both over most of the crap coming out today.Comment

I own both guns. 2 Emags 1 Shocktech SLF Autococker 1 Black Magic Autococker ...
Open bolt Mag vs closed bolt Cocker.
This would be a great comparison. the open bolt is less accurate (but we are dealing with a paintball for God sakes) and the closed bolt of the auto cocker is more accurate. Rate of fire is.. well for me about the same.
Ease of use.
Mags can be the easiest to tune and adjust over a long period of time. Cockers.. do not need alot of adjustment unless you really screw something up. or have no idea what you are doing with them.
Looks
mags blend in with everything and the cockers are more or less made to stand out of a crowd
Both you can short stroke and turn both into blenders. But I have never had an Automags bolt jam on be before and my Black Magic the bolt stuck 2 times in one game... before I oiled it.Comment

Its the way back in time post! who wants to mention open vs closed bolt?
I've owned both a cocker and a mag and I have to say I'd go with the mag hands down. The autococker has a lot of good virtues, but I prefer to feel of a single tube marker. Lets face it, a stock mag is a tighter package than a stock cocker (yes, I am aware of half blocks and all). A mag is you best friend if you want gas and go play. Also, small bore paint won't role out of your breach.Comment

The difference? How they were designed.
When the companies wanted semi auto operation, two companies took two different strategies.
WGP took what they had already, and merely modified it by adding some pneumatics to the front to replace the cocking arm. So it was/is a pump gun that has stuff thrown on. In other words, it was not originally designed for semi auto play. It may do that, it may be capable of doing that smoothly and what not, but that's not what they were originally designed for. They were redesigned in 2000, which made them true semi auto markers, and later in 2k5 to make them electros.
AGD took a very different tack. They redesigned the paintball gun. The automag was not their first creation, they actually developed a rough semi auto, called the panther, abandoned that, and then created a stacked tube blowback. When it did not perform as they wished, they scrapped it and made another gun from the ground up. Which led us to the automag which was later redesigned(MINORLY) around 2000 to what it is today. All of this history is in the manual.
So, which company do you want to shoot with? The lazy company that just threw crap onto a pump gun? Or the one that created a whole new design specifically for semi auto play?Comment

Ah... the classic question!Originally posted by Snap32Hey guys just wanted to know what yall thought about this issue. What are the Pro's and Con's of both markers, and in your opinion which one is the better of the two.
Blonde... brunette... one's easier... one's a bit higher maintenance... one's got more aftermarket parts... Both great to play with. Take them both out.
