ALLL Kinds of Minimag troubles, leaks chuffing, SOMEONE HELP!!!

Okay I recently bought a mini mag and put a butt load of upgrades onto it thanks to your suggestions. It had a number of leaks so I ordered a first aid kit and replaced all the seals and it worked fine. I let it lay in my garage for a week or so and went back to it and now the trigger sticks back and will not reset all the time and now it leaks out the barrel when the trigger isn't depressed. I find this very frustrating and have been messing with this thing for a couple months and need it rolling by the end of the month.

I have built, timed and tuned autocockers and had a lot less trouble. This experience is ruining my impression of mags, PLEASE help save it for me!!!

When you say that it leaks from the barrel when the trigger isn't depressed, do you mean that it leaks from the barrel when it's pressed? If so, did you replace the on/off oring?

If you ment that it leaks from the barrel when you don't touch the trigger, did you change the power tuber o-ring?

If the trigger isn't resetting, you are getting bolt stick. The first thing you want to do is tune your level 10 bolt setup ( I assume you have a level 10). Remove all the level 10 shims first. Then use the largest level 10 carrier that doesn't leak. Always use the same white carrier oring when testing carrier sizes.

If it sounds like the air is "rushing" out the barrel (not just a hiss) then your bolt is not resetting. Remove the barrel (not really necessary, but may be easier), turn on your air and stick something like a wood dowel down the body/barrel and push against the face of the bolt, it should reset.

That is a one time fix only. He needs to fix the problem that is causing it. That is done by tuning the level 10.

yeah I am pretty sure this is not a level ten setup and has no spacers that I can see, just a basic mag deal. no foamie on the bolt either and I have no idea how to tell what the level of the bolt is. thanks for trying, I am just wayy too frustrated with this thing. How can something so simple be such a pain in the bum?

If its not a level 10 bolt then it is a level 7 bolt. There are a couple of different types. One type has a metal center that protrudes out the front with a small indent where the ball sits. This is a foamyless design. Another type has a 1/4" cavity where the foamy sits. This type definately needs a foamy to work properly. A third type has several venturi holes drilled around the perimeter. Some of these may or may not use a foamy (not AGD foamy). Some of these venturi bolts have issues in some mag setups.

Level 10 bolts have the distintive bolt stem that is smaller at the back and then steps up to a larger stem about 3/8" from the end.

Level 7 bolts setups require a powertube spacer to hold the powertube oring in place. If the powertube spacer is too short, it will cause bolt stick. Another cause of bolt stick, is a worn bolt spring. Get some spares. The bolt spring is a consumable item and will need to be replaced periodically anyway.

On a level 7 mag, you can troubleshoot where your problems are quite easily. Hold the trigger in after you fire a shot, even if it chuffs or spurts. If the leaking goes away with the trigger in, then your problem is in the powertube area of the mag. If the leaking continues, then you may have issues with the on-off orings.

My guess is the oring between the spacer in the power tube and the back of the tube

yeah this is def a level seven then. Its got the protrusion with the indentation at the tip of the bolt. Come to think of it, there was a smashed o-ring on the power tube tip past the threads which I removed a replaced with a regular o-ring. Perhaps this was indeed a smashed spacer??? It seemed kinda hard for an o-ring but still split easily. Any ideas other than buy a level ten? HAHA

How tight is the thumb screw? The big flat head screw at the back of the trigger frame. It's suppose to be hand tightened. If it's too tight, it can cause bolt stick.

Edit: Just to make sure that you're changing the right o-ring, it's the one deep in the power tube.

This is the one you might want to concider changing.


The o-ring on the brass power tube tip is to prevent from unscrewing if i'm not mistaken. It doesn't actualy seal anything.

You're correct, the oring on the brass tip is just to keep it from unscrewing.

check to make sure the oring in the top picture is in your gun. I just picked up a minimag and was having the same problem because that oring was gone.
