X-mag feedneck - another option (pics)

Well, I've been sitting here with a non clamping x-mag feedneck for a while and exploring my options. Due to my distrustful nature I decided instead of sending it out - I'd do the mod myself. I didn't feel like dealing with the pressed feedneck issue so I began exploring ego feednecks, but ended up tracking down and using a Trinity Trilogy feedneck like the ones I just started putting on some of my old vert feed westwood autcockers. Anyway:

Step 1 - cut down the old feedneck with a dremel and file it smooth.

Step 2 - put new trinity feedneck next to it for a picture

Step 3 - put trinity feedneck on, tighten, and then put the module in

All in all very easy. Trinity doesn't make these feednecks anymore - but if you can track one down (I got this one for $10) it works great and looks fine too.

Since the cut feed neck seams to be at an angle and that there doesn't seam to be a lot of surface contact with the clamping feed neck, does it move arround or wobble a little bit?

Its not cut at an angle - it was cut and then filed/polished right where the 3rd notch was. I then ground and filed that spot a little bit. With the way the trinity neck works, it is actually notched similarly (you can see the slight gap above the bottom clamp in the 3rd pic - that is where the notch fits) and doesn't wobble at all and has a very snug fit even before tightening it down.

Looking down into the neck once installed, the wall is a consistent diameter all the way down. This is the main reason I didn't just clamp it too the feedneck uncut.

Nicely done. I wonder if that will work with an Ego feed neck?

I don't think so - or if it would you'd want to put it on a lathe and turn it down so it is an even diameter all the way down (similar to michbich's point)

I don't think that he meant that the cut was angled, but that the original feedneck looks tapered at the bottom.
