Rail Sear Slot Milling question

any idea why the slot for the sear has this jag kind of pattern?
seems to me that it could be straight unless this has some function I'm not aware of.


ever seen a part like this:

I'm thinking of using the one on the right, or something like it to join threaded rod between the trigger and the sear.
need a better source if you know where they can be found...

those little bumps are just to keep the sear straight in the slot.....not sure if the absolutely required.

is there a reason your trying to replace the clevis used to join the trigger rod to the sear? If you need one, you can go to an RC hobby shop and pick one up(they arnt the exact part, but you should be able to find something really similar) Or maybe i'm missunderstanding you?

oh you understand me perfectly.
the thing is i'm not using the typical mag trigger set up.
for my Wood Stocked projects i need to move the trigger backward 2.5"
so that means connectiing the trigger to the sear with a rod.

oh....id just go to a hobby shop, pic up some 4-40 all thread and clevises and you should be good to go. You could go with heavier than 4-40 if you wanted, but I doubt its needed since the rod is in tension.

I was thinking of doing something similar, except in reverse and making a bottom fed bulpup style mag just need some free time and some money

the odd shape is to keep the sear in straight with as little rubbing as possible, if it was juat a long slot exactly the size of the sear it would have a much stiffer trigger pull

211 explained it correct. Keeping the opening wide with minimal points of contact keeps the friction to a minimum with less chance of a piece of debris causing the sear to lock up. The contact points maintain the sear in the correct alignment to keep tolerances tight.

i would assume that is because the brass bushing centers the sear
in the slot reducing the contact even further.

is the rubber band/spring required to stop short stroking or something? I understand that it would aid in the resetting of the sear, but I would think if there wasnt a large resistance in the trigger mechanism it wouldnt be needed?
