    Stupid Question on Twistlock Pins

    Hi,

Sorry for the spupid question but how in Hell do I get a twistlock pin off of a AM/MM rail?
Should I hammer it of? And how do I install it into another rail? Hammering it back in?

    Thanks!

a rubber hammer would be better since it wont ruin the rail or the twist lock itself. To get it out: place the rail racing downward on top of two blocks, one on each end. then smack out the twist lock assembly. To get it in: Same thing as above, but with the rail facing upward. If the twist lock isnt flush with the rail, try to push it down with your finger since it would be unreachable by the hammer.

    hope that makes sense...

      ^ got it right.

I usually lay a towel over it, and hit with a real hammer. (my rubber mallet is MIA)

To reinstall it: It is easiest with nut driver (similar to a screw driver, but has a hex head on the end) IIRC it is 1/4" does the best. place it over the twistlock, and hit with a hammer.

Thanks! In over 12 years with Mags I never did that

Now I have to find something to put beneath the rails before hammering them

LOL I did realize the correct side to hammer it before. Just wanted to know if there were any other method to take it off. Something less violent

I use a makeshift press with 3 blocks of wood to press it out. I use a nut driver to press them back in if needed. I use a bit of 400grit to polish the twist lock body if its too tight. It should go in snug, but not to where you need more than moderate pressure to put it in. Its rare that I need more than just my fingers to get them in or out.

Lay the rail top side down (body side) on 2 blocks of wood.
Leave a gap where the pin is.
Hit the twist lock from the bottom (where the adjustment screw is) w/ a hammer.
I use a piece of aluminum to protect the twist lock (in case I wanted to reuse it)

you are to hit "the brass part that goes into the trigger frame." The "other side with the ball" (its actually a pin-like thingy :P) is where you hit to put the twistlock back in, but if you can, using your thumb for that way is better... or both ways would be ideal.

                            Done!

I did it. Just held the rail facing downwards, got a hammer and hit it! It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Now, to put it back into the other rail I needed, what I did was to press it with my fingers and then I got the body, removed the barrel and frame from it, aligned the body and twist-lock pin and started to screw in the bolt that hold them together. As I screwed the bolt, it slowly pressed the pin into place inside the rail. Pretty easy too. All took under 2 minutes.

                            Thanks for your hints guys!!!
