    Warp not spinning at all

I bought a used warp, and when I pressed the white button it wouldn't spin. I will post pics and more info later, I have to go, but if you've ever heard of anything like this happening, please post.

    Pics and more info:
Well, EVERYTHING on the warp looked fine when I got it, except the two wires going to the battery were twisted onto the battery clip's wires. So it looked like someone had changed the battery set-up. I don't know what the stock set-up is, I think it's 6 AA's? But this one came with a single 9v clip.

BTW I have NO idea what the heck I'm doing with the jumpers, please help. I'm trying to just make it spin right now, but let's say I'm planning on going with the vibration/sound sensor.

    1st check the batteries.
2nd I don't know. Check to see if the motor will spin freely and maybe pray to different Gods. Check to see if voltage is getting to the motor when you press the white button. Check to see if the white button is actually closing a circuit (check resistance from the leads).

I don't know a THING about electronics, but I know I have a black box with a dial, a meter thing, and some wires. I'll get my dad to help me out, I think I know what you mean and I hope that will tell me where the problem is, thanks!

The stock battery setup is a single 9v or a clip w/4 AA's, but it looks like a previous owner ran a different setup though.

The manual has info on the jumper settings. Here's a link to the manual at AGD's website, if you hadn't found it yet.

I've read through the jumper part of the warp manual several times, and I still don't get the part about the ones on the left.

Anyone know of anything that would prevent the warp from turning on at all?

            Edit:

I just set up my warp's jumpers like you have them and it worked, although with the blue potentiometer set to point down, it spun continuously. It must either be that the board isn't getting voltage (dead/low battery, broken wire, fried board) or the motor is dead or stuck.

            Edit2:

I just took my crappy multitester that I got at Radio Shack for like $20 and tested some things.
Keep in mind that I'm an idiot and I don't know what the heck I'm doing, but yours should do the same thing as mine.

You should be getting 9 volts across GND to VCC on the board.
(If not the board isn't getting voltage. Check battery and wires.)

If you jump GND to MTR1, the motor should spin.
(If not, your motor/board is burnt out or jammed, try turning it by hand.)

Give that a try and let us know.

Check the wires from the battery harness to the board. Eventually you have to resolder each end of the two wires...

thanks, secretweaponevan!! I got my dad to help me follow your directions, and we concluded that the motor is messed up.

                GND to VCC
got the 7 or so volts

Jumped GND to MTR1, motor did NOT spin.

Jumped the battery directly to the motor, the motor did NOT spin.

I have now removed the motor, and it does spin with 7 volts, but only a little. Too fast for me to count RPM, but still to slow. I mounted it back onto the belt drive, and it was too weak to even spin just the small black gear. I looked inside the motor through the vents, and the brushes (I don't know what they do or how, just know what they're called) look wrong. They are curved, but the curve is 90* to the

halfway through typing this I got the assembly to spin a little by putting the 9volt on the back of the motor. I had to adjust the back plate, though, to get low friction on the black gear's axle. So the motor is just really weak I think. BTW, it spins backwards.

continued: curve of the motor's axle. So instead of this: (O)
                they're like this: |O|
and the side view of that is like this: (| |)
I hope the pictures make sense. In the middle is the axle, on the sides are the brushes.

Anyway, while that's weird, I think it's supposed to be like that. And I don't know how to fix the motor because I don't know what's wrong with it, so I'm going to buy a new one. Anyone know the manufacturer, model number, info, etc. on the motor? Or should I just buy one from tuna?

                Thanks again for the help!

                  Great news, glad to help.

I'll take a look at my brushes around 9am EST and let you know what I find.

For what it's worth, the warp doesn't spin that fast. It only needed to advance like 7 inches of circumference per second (back in the days when 10bps was fast). The 12 volt mod sold by PTP and perhaps Tuna up the speed a bit, but I'll take a look at my warp when I get off work.

You should be able to buy a motor from http://store.airgundesignsusa.com/in...&categoryID=19

I tested MTR1 to MTR2, I got the vibration sensor to work, as well as the white button. So the board is fine, I'll buy another motor! Thanks!

From what I can tell, my brushes are situated like (O).

What might have happened was the battery wires were wired backwards at some point and your motor spun backwards and kinked the brushes out of whack.

                      Battery Wires
                      Red to VCC on board
                      Black to GND on board

                      Motor Wires
                      Red to MTR1 on board
                      White to MTR2 on board

                      Good luck!
