Mounting an ASA Back Bottle Style

How do you go about mounting an ASA bottle adapter to the bottom backside of a Mag the way they used to be in the old days? What I mean is, I am going to run compressed air through a remote for scenario games and the remote will connect to a gas through stock. The gas through stock screws into the bottle ASA like you would have underneath the handle. However, I would like to place it on the rail right underneath the A.I.R. valve. Do I just drill some holes for set screws or something?

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Have you seen the old style ASAs? Idk about the later classic rails, but they all used to have a pair of holes (maybe blind holes now) for screws that went through the rail to the ASA. From the 1/8" (NPT) air port on the right side of the ASA, the stock mag came with a braided steel hose that U turned back into the valve.

I still have my old ASA with the AGD logo on it somewhere. I love shoulder stocks for pumps, but I don't have any on my mags. I might be convinced to give my ASA to a good home.

I seem to recall some complaints about the old ASAs and the pin depressor length being too short for some bottles. If you're running a gas thru stock you wouldn't care though.

The MM rail I have has two points that are depressed on the inside of the rail which looks like where some screws would be ran through, they just haven't been yet. Is this what you're talking about maybe? I was just thinking it might be more comfortable to have the ASA / Stock combo up higher than under the handle. If I were to drill two holes and put some screws in there to hold the ASA, is that going to cause any problems?

      Thanks,

The two blind holes under the valve are the ones you need to open up to attach an ASA.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

BTW, i forgot to ask...how do I go about doing this exactly? I mean, do I just drill two holes there? What makes the screws hold? Doesn't it need threading for the screws to thread up into?

            Thanks,

You just drill the hole with a bit that is a little smaller. You don't want to make the holes bigger, just all the way through.

The holes are not threaded. The AGD ASA is threaded from the top. Your rail holes should be countersunk, so you put two flathead #10 screws from the rail down into the ASA. It mounts up plenty strong.

If you wanted a different ASA, you would have to look at putting some nuts or threads in the rail.
