hex end on a minimag regulator body??

I bought an older minimag on ebay awhile ago, and noticed the hex head that goes around the velocity screw. I had never seen this before on any mag. I was wondering what that was all about, or is it a rarity? I'll post a pic this evening. thanks for any info.
this is the message that i get when i try to upload pics

You probably mean a velocity lock? or a tourney lock, whatever it's called. It's so you can't adjust the velocity to comply with a tourny's rules.

no thats not it, its part of the reg body itself, its about a 7/8 or larger size. and the velocity adjustment is inside. i can send a pic thru email, but cant post here.

            Does it look like this?

It is not part of the body it will unscrew. See picks above. There is the end cap that screws in to that nut to cover the velocity adjust. As was said to make it tourny legal.

            And welcome to AO.

Edit........Let me restate that. The big nut screws into the valve body. The velocity adjust screws into the big nut and then the cap screws into the big nut to COVER the velocity adjust. I bet you are missing the cap. This was set up so you could not tamper with the velocity on field after chrono to make it tourny legal for the NPPL at the time.
