    Halo Help Please

Well i figured a lot of people on here have owned a halo at some point, and i just got one used from JRingold on here, and it fed fine when i had it empty a hopper of balls into a bag, but i just went and tried it on my gun, and when i was firing it would fire for a little bit, then it would have alternating red and green blinking lights. I have no clue what the heck this means, so if someone could help me out i would greatly appreciate it.

I've never owned one, but the manuals can be had here:

    Good luck.

Only problem is i'm not entirely sure which model i have. Ah well, i'll search their site while waiting to see if someone can help me out.

Well according to the thread on PBN it was either low on batteries, had a bad connection, the eyes are dirty or are going, or the board is going, but i just tried it and it seemed to work fine, so maybe it was something with the batteries? I'm not sure, but i just tried it so it seems to work, i guess all i can do is try it out this weekend if i get to play in between reffing and see if it happens again.

I use nothing but halo's..i love em!

The alternating blinky lights generally means that the batteries are nearly dead. A good rule of thumb with halos is to use high performance batteries (Duracell or energenizer) and change them every few days of usage. Also shut off the hopper every time your walking off the field to save batteries

Well i just put batteries in it, but i left it sitting for a few hours while i went to play some basketball, and from what i've heard they eat batteries, so i took away it's food, and i'm hoping it's just a battery issue. I would really hate to get a halo in a trade with a bad board or something, although since it worked after that i tend to think that it's all on the level.

Halos are battery hogs. They eat em like its going out of style LOL. As long as you keep fresh good batteries on hand all times, you should be good to go.

Possibly dismantle the whole kit, and clean the eyes like you would for any set on a marker, and lube up the gears, and you should be good to go. Stock boards sell for peanuts (but thats up here in canada...idk what they sell for in the states)

Are you using dark paint? Sometimes Halos have a tough time seeing dark shell paint. There is a potentiometer on the board (adjuster with a slot for a screw driver) that lets you adjust the sensitivity on the eyes. (It is very similar to the Xmag ACE).

Try fresh batteries first. If that doesnt solve your problems, I would give the eyes a good cleaning, then think about replacing them.

I'd have to disagree with all the posts on so far.

The alternating light does not mean low battery, it means there is a jam.

Here is what I would suspect (taken from another time I posted it):

                Are these correct?

                1. Feeds fine off the gun.
                2. Goes into "jam" mode on the gun.

                If so:

I don't know if you're familiar with how the Halo works, but there's an infared
break beam that goes across inside the hopper neck. If the beam is blocked by
a ball the Halo does not spin. When you shoot and there is a gap between the
balls, then the beam makes it across and the motor starts to spin.

                So:

On a very small number of guns the height of the breach/feedneck is EXACTLY
right so that the break beam sensor is RIGHT inbetween to balls in the stack.
Just enough so that the light can get past the balls right where they
touch. Then the motor starts to spin because it thinks there is no paint in the
feedneck. It tries to spin for a second or two and then detects a jam and does
the blinking light thing and stops working.

This is why using the rip drive doesn't clear the "jam", because there
really is no jam. And this is also why it works just fine sometimes
                (slightly different sized paint).

                To fix the problem:

Don't put the hopper neck quite all the way into the feedneck.
Or cut a little bit off the hopper neck so it sits lower.
Or use a slightly different sized paint and hope it works OK.

I'm hoping that's the problem then, because it happened when i was firing fast, and i thought it might've jammed. I'm gonna test it out this saturday hopefully and see if this is fixed, if not i'll pull the hopper out a bit, if that doesn't work then i may have to complain to the original owner, but i highly doubt the last one will happen.

Low batteries can give this condition as well. The Halo motor doesn't have the same push and the hesitation shows up as a jam even though the hopper is still feeding. I've seen it several times on my own halos. The problem goes away with new batteries.

Well i finally got to play cause i only had to ref half the day and sure enough it was the ball stack, i had to pull it out like an eighth to a quarter of an inch in order for it to feed, but once it did it was amazing. Thanks for the help, otherwise i would've been stuck today.
