    Star Program????

I read on AGD that they discontinued the star program. Now I know they do not use it in their new markers but what about pre-existing markers. For example, I have a minimag that was purchased in either 99 or 00 and has 4 stars(which are still there). Does this mean they no longer honor that being that I still had it before the discontinuing of the program or am I, for lack of a better term SOL and have to pay?

You should call them to get the official stance but as I would take it, they will not honor the stars.

I'm not too worried, I'm sure i can rebuild it without a problem if I need to. It's still going strong even after 8 years of playing...its the best marker I've ever owned. I'll probably never get rid of it. It was just a nice thought that i could still get it rebuilt if need be....I guess I'll have to call them. Thanks for the info.

I dont recall if or when this changed, but as early as say 5-6 years ago they were no longer making new valves with stars, but taking older valves with stars still on them and offering the warranty/repair work and removing the stars. I had a classic that still had stars that I sent in and they removed one star and serviced it for me.

I don't know if they still do this, do like the others and give them a call and see, either way I'd gladly pay a small fee to have someone (be it AGD themselves, or one of the many other people on the forum) tech my marker for me.

Yeah, call and see. It was my impression that although they weren't making new valves with stars that they would still honor the old stars (or at least fudge the rules a bit for you), but I'm not sure.

I like having the stars. I would rather buy the rebuild kit than ship my entire marker off for two weeks (?) and get one of my stars erased.

On the other hand, I am surprised by the number of people that would rather have someone else work on their marker.

I think its more of having the AGD certified people deal with it rather than taking a chance themselves and fudging it up and having to replace something more expensive. But like I said-I'm sure I could figure it out as with the majority of everyone here. I also like having all 4 stars on my minimag valve too....I guess some people don't mind, especially if they got a back-up.

I have back-ups, but it's hard to let anyone else work on my markers.

The first reason is that I have an idea what is wrong with it, the second is that I will be myself and not my friends or a tech in a different state if it rolls over and dies.

My surprise doesn't have anything to do with an inability to do the work, actually the opposite. Fully capable people (with time, money and understanding) chose to make someone else responsible for their marker. Those I don't get.

I am curious about the status of the star program though. It was nice knowing that the stars had value.
