    Old mag, new problems

Hi everyone, thanks for giving this a look.

So the mag i use is a friend's older brothers. Its the Automag 68, before it was classic.
Its got the A.I.R Valve, Advanced intergrated Reglator.

i used to use HPA on it but that hasn't been working lately so i threw on a 20oz CO2 and it got going. sweet!

i have the level 10 bolt in it, intellifeed grip(not atached to hopper), and a WGP Ergo regulator on it.

when it works it runs smoothly which is why i am haivng some trouble understanding whats up with it.

1.sometimes i need to go musket style and use a squeege to hit the bolt back like half a centermeter for it to catch again.
2.othertimes the trigger is pressurized but nothign happens after i pull the trigger.
3.sometimes the rod behind the trigger feels like it gets stuck and if i hit it back (by pulling the trigger) it loosens up adn im good to go again.
4.and sometimes it kinda half fires(is this the lvl 10 working?) where it kinda makes a sound of air being release but not projectile.
    5. it leaks out of the velocity adjuster on the back, sometime very little ie a finger can stop it, other times violently, other times not at all

Also it seems to only like to work when it is getting A Lot of pressure, like the reg reading 850~1000 and the tank being full, it did not work at all when run on a remote. and if the tank is getting low i will get error #2 often, but an unscrew and rescew of the tank overcomes that about 50% of the time.

i know its an old model and a lot of weird questions but any help i can get would be awesome. if you need me to get more specific about anything just let me know and i will try my best.

    again many thanks!
well it all started with me and the Cheat one day...

Take the valve off the marker by loosening the field strip screw located below it.

Take off the bolt, take out the on/off assy, unscrew the halves take out the velocity adjuster, push out the reg piston.

Lightly oil the powerfeed tube, put a couple of drops on teh stem of the bolt and put it back.
Lightly oil the on/off pin and the orings and put it back.
Lightly grease the piston oring, spring pack, and put them back.
    Screw the halves back together.

Try and shoot it and tell me if it works or what changed.

All the above can be the result of a worn out bolt return spring, or a valve body that has rear body screw too tight.
The first spring issue keeps bolt from fully returning so sear can catch, also on/off is not switched enough so marker fires again (Typically full auto if on/off gets a recharge done)
The second OVER TIGHT screw just binds up everything basically causing bolt stick.

I am guessing that you are experiencing bolt stick. Sounds like your level 10 needs to be tuned. Try a larger carrier size.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

cool guys thanks for all ur ideas.
i was outta gas when i posted this so once i refill ill tell you how the changes work.

i also the parts kit for a new spring to put in and o rings should i need them.
im going to go read more about the lvl10 issue that was brought up.

about my regulator, would it work better with a gas thru grip rather than a reg as there is a built in regulator?

You don't need the extra regulator. It will just starve the marker of air. The built in one should work fine.

I agree with the above poster.

Take the WGP regulator off the gun and replace it with a gas through grip.

The name "Adavnced Integrated Regulator" says it all. Anything else is inefficiant and overkill.

If your running Co2 you kinda do need an extra regulator. Just make sure you have the output psi on the reg set around 750-800 and use the gold spring. Also make sure your barrel is not to small for the level 10 bolt. I was using a .685 bore size on my classic and the level 10 bolt wouldn't fit in the barrel. I was experencing most of the same problems you are. My bolt was getting stuck in the barrel so i had to have the first 1/2 inch of the barrel bored out a little to make it work. Bingo bango i was back in the game. However in your case i betting more then likely its the lack of lube. If you go back to HPA you can lose the extra reg.

                    thanks for tall the input.

so i bought the parts kit and threw the new spring in.
took all the lube recommendations made and it has made the marker much more consistent.
it works on HPA now again it just needs to be a pretty well filled tank, and i left the reg on as i dont have a gasthru to put on right now, i've been keeping the pressure around 700 and its been fine.

                    ~new problem~

the only problem i experienced the last time i took it out was some first 2-3 shot shootdown.
i would beed to pull the trigger about 3 times (trigger was pressurized but no firing) and then it would fire weakly once, like go 20 feet, then a lil better then id be able to rip like nothing was ever wrong. this only occured in the beginning of the games after i hadnt used the gun for maybe 20 minutes and never occured in the middle of use. i was running CO2 i belive when this happened but i was goign back and forth between co2 and HPA all day
well it all started with me and the Cheat one day...

Yea that soot down problem you have been having is it only when you use Co2? The mag i just rebuilt is kinda doing the same thing. But it sounds to me like the level 10 bolt going off. Next time out i am going to use HPA on it and see if it does the same thing. I'll keep an eye out here. It sounds like you and i have the same problem.

^^^^ as I was going about my day thinking about it. i was thinking it might be a mild case of bolt stick.

it seems that bolt stick was the main problem, a good lubeing of the recommended by punkncat and a new bolt spring have this baby in almost perfect running order.

i was having some problems with shoot down in the midst of firing which was due to the reglator i have on, but i increased that to arond 900 psi and it has worked fine since.

now the only problem i am having is a slight leak out of velocity adjuster, but it is not constant.

i have a gas-thru that i intend on putting on this and replacing the Ergo so hopefully solve the pressure issues i have been experincing but the elbow on the bottom is facing the wrong way. i think that it was pt there by the factory, its one of these sqauare ones, and it is hard as hell to get off. i have scratched up the grip even when wrapping it in a shirt and putting it in a vice to try to get it off. any ideas on how to get this stubborn piece off?

right now i have a tight setup and this gasthru fits perfectly but with the elbow facing how it is not there isnt enough room to connect air to it becase it is right infornt of the drop forward. so any idea on getting it off or even getting the grip to face the other way when screwed in would both be really helpful.
