    How bad is this?

    I got this barrel with a gun I bought a while ago and the previous owner must have let a broken ball sit in there for a while. It's pitted a bit and feels slightly rough. I haven't used it yet but will this thing be breaking lots of balls, or reduced accuracy, or anything?

      If that is paint residue, I would run some HOT water through it to soften it up and then pull a rubber squeege through it to get it out. It should be fine after that.

          If it turns out to be more than residue...

          Find some really low grit (high number) sandpaper or emery cloth. Wrap a peice on the end of a "fluffy" squeegie. Attach it to your drill and go back and forth through the barrel as evenly as you can. You might even try something like #0000 Steel Wool.

              I've seen worse... Just follow georgeyew's instructions and maybe buff it with a swab afterwards. Some small scratches should not be a real problem i guess.

                  Those look like pits from here. Pits will collect shell and get you some wild spins. If you try it and it doesn't work well and you still need the barrel, try the polish and if there some pits left, finish with some hard wax.

                  Which reminds me, for brass barrels they used to sell barrel hones which would definitely take pits out with all of the anno too. Which also reminds me ( :) ) people used to play with honing different profiles through the barrel, usually a larger diameter through the middle and tighter on the ends.

                  If it's as pitted as it looks, that's about all I would expect out of it.

                      It is definitely pitted. I don't really "need" this barrel, I was just curious if it was salvageable. Thanks.

                          Had another thought: How much does it generally cost to have a barrel bored out for freak inserts and does anyone here do it?
