At least by the deffinitions I've come to know (about 15 years in this crazy game), the 2 are compltely different.
A cradle is a means of mounting the tank more in the same family as a rail, or an ASA. The cradle goes around the tank or the reg. While a tank screws into an ASA. Or, slides onto a rail.
A drop can go in between the bottom of your grip and the ASA, rail or cradle.
