Please help me trick out my old minimag

    Hi all,

I was considering buying a new gun - some new high end electro... But then I thought - why? I have a good high-end electro. I want a "classic car" paintball gun. Then I thought hey - what about my old minimag!?

I have a minimag from about 15 years ago. It is in rough shape - but I wouldn't mind making it a "project" and spending some cash to give it a new life. I need some help here from an old school expert to tell me if what I have is even worth fixing up...

Here is where I am starting:
    • The receiver frame is original (I think) but it doesn't have any marks on it I can easily identify.
    • The expansion chamber is totally ghetto. I would like to replace this since I will switch the gun to CA
    • The ASA has no on/off and is huge and clunky.
    • The lower hose (ASA to Expansion Chamber) is braided steel with large brass quick disconnects
    • The upper hose (expansion chamber to regulator) is plastic coated steel with similar massive brass fittings (quick disconnects)
    • The feedneck adapter is ghetto and taped on to the minimag feed tube with electrical tape.
    • I have a shorty (8"?) Armason barrel with the rifled honing. As I recall it sucks. I also have a decent 14" barrel (not sure the make)
    • It has a hand made one piece black walnut grip (made it myself many years ago).

I would like to squeeze out every bit of performance and looks I can, but I am not sure its worth it.

If you would like I can take some pictures to show you what I have...

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Pictures would help.

You know, depending on how far you want to take it you might just be better off starting over and buying the pieces to build a new one. That way you end up with 2 mags instead of 1 mag and a bunch of old parts!

my regular marker is a classic 68 body, rail, and grip with expansion chamber. I upgraded it to an X valve a few years ago, but everything else is bone stock.

its heavy. But despite its age, it is still feared by many. Sometimes the younger crowd scoffs at it until they see it in action. I love my classic.

FYI the expansion chamber is useless with HPA, and your mag is no longer a "classic", but an "RT".

He's just saying the body is from a classic 68.

I have a minimag that served me well for many years and many tournaments. My old team mates and I have started playing local tournaments again for fun with our mags. I can't really say I up graded the minimag I more or less built a new gun. The major problem with the minimag is it has a big hunk of heavy stainless steel for a body. I bought a ULE body, milled the rail to lighten it, milled the grip frame to lighten it, switched from a stainless barrel to a aluminum DYE barrel. I also made a custom aluminum trigger and foregrip. I shaved almost 2lbs off of it. The only thing really orignal is the classic valve. I love playing wtih my mag again after it sitting and collecting dust for the last few years. I have yet to feel out gunned playing in tournaments with the electro kids. Its fun tearing them up with the mags after they roll thier eyes at them. I may pneumag it and get a xvalve too so in the end as mentioned before I will have 2 guns, a minimag and a custom built one.
