Ive got a minimag, and i want to know if its working properly. I know theyre supposed to be indestructible, but short of taking it to the field and chronoing it, is there a way i can check if its all kosher?

naa... just put a little oil in it and add air... should be all you need to do...
since i'm being lazy i'll ask someone to post a link to the manual for you... it's definately worth a read thru and will give you more information than you need. -
It's kind of like a car in that you have to put gas in it and drive it, or be willing to open the hood and poke around.
Other than orings, the bolt spring should extend around 1/8" beyond the tip of the bolt. If you have the bolt out, check for sand, paint and dirt paste, etc. If it's not too dirty and has the classic on/off (round stainless bottom), I wouldn't mind doing what TC, said, add oil and gas.Comment

Ive heard a lot about different oils and stuff. would tri-flow be ok?

It will work if you have nothing else. Something synthetic will preserve the orings much longer. Iirc, tri-flow is a blend with some distillates in it. Buna and viton orings like it, but urethane will harden in regular oils and blends. Someone here uses vegetable oil (my apologies for not remembering who it is )
Search for 'lube', 'oil' and/or 'synthetic'. There's lots of threads about stuff people use. I like superlube oil mostly.Comment

I use the Super Lube Teflon and KC Trouble Free (no longer available
) oils. The Super Lube seems a little thick for the winter though.
