    Marker is hissing at me

This may be a x-valve/lvl10 newbie question, but I just got a marker (with ULT) and while it airs up just fine and really, fires just fine too, there's a hiss right after firing that slowly goes away after about 10 seconds. It decreases gradually. Anyone know if this is normal, and if it's not, what could be the issue? Thanks.

Additional info: The hissing is constant whether I hold the trigger or not. The marker does have really strong RT (doesn't take much to go into full auto), so maybe it's the input pressure? I don't have an adjustable reg.

What's the velocity? Maybe velocity is too high. Try turning it down a little.

Where is your leak sound like it is coming from? Have you oiled it, mags like oil. Could be you need to go down a size on your LX carrier nut the trigger diagnoses sounds like it is ruling the LX out of it.

The leak sounds like it's coming from the center, basically the feedneck area. I haven't checked the velocity yet, I'll do that now. Is it normal for it to be this bouncy, though? I can barely shoot single shots, it goes straight to burst.

Update: Now it hisses some times, and actually stops when the trigger is held in.

Alright, I lubed the thing up, but the "issue" still persists. What makes it worse is that it doesn't seem consistent at all; some times, it's a steady, low hiss (doesn't matter if trigger is pressed or not), but after the next shot it's a louder hiss, and some times it goes away when the trigger is held down, and then the next salvo will bring it back to the low hiss, loud hiss, or no hiss at all. The one thing that is consistent is that it sounds perfect until the marker is fired. I'm completely unfamiliar with both the lvl 10 and the ULT, so I'm lost, to say the least. I'm not even sure if it is an issue, but it doesn't seem like an air leak of any sort can be good. I'm also still curious about the bounciness; from what I've heard, the ULT is supposed to decrease that, but this one is a snap to get to run in auto mode.

          Anyway, thanks for the help.

Level 10 tuning video on you tube this will show you how to tune the level 10 , you might want to go ahead and change the two on/off orings as well

Thanks for the guide. I'm starting to get genuinely steamed at this marker now; I can't get the freaking carrier out of the powertube. Any ideas on a method of forceful extraction that won't cause much damage?

I checked the on/off, and there are a lot of shims there; 5 or 6, I forget. Would this account for the nearly uncontrollable firing rate?

Use the field strip screw to remove the carrier if you do not have a pick. You can slightly thread it into the o-ring and pull up to remove the carrier.

Yes, a lot of shims in the ULT will cause a full auto effect. Try removing all but two shims and then try to track down that leak. Also you may have a mix of LX and ULT shims, the ULT shims are half the size of LX shims. .005 vs. .010

Thank you so much for that piece of advice (using the field strip). I got the carrier and the shims out, and test firing it after just removing the shims, the hissing is gone. Does that make sense, or is it maybe just that I reseated the carrier that caused the leak to stop?

edit: put the shims back in, and it's not hissing at me at all now.

It could have been a piece of dirt caught in an oring.

I was going to suggest removing a shim from your powertube. If the hiss returns, try that.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

Embarrassingly enough, that's probably what it was. It's working beautifully now though, and even the level 10 seems to be working perfectly.
