2 Mags with 2 diff. leaks

I am no expert on working on mags. Ive have 7-8 mags over the last 10 years, but have never had to work on them at all Gotta love that, but then again it leaves me with the problem of not knowing how to work on them if they would break, like now.

The first mag has a classic valve. It is leaking down the barrel but still shoots fine. The leak will stop if i put a little bit of tention on the trigger. Whats wrong?

The second mag is a clasic Rt with classic RT valve. It has a small leak somewhere in the valve. It not leaking down the barrel at all. The leaks tends to be farily slight, but at times a pretty good leak. Gun still shoots with the leak but not something i want to play with. Whats the deal? Im thinking it probably just needs a rebuild... Also, i have a level 10 on the way if that would make any difference

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

The leak down the barrel most likely has to do with the power tube. Check the o-ring (may need replacing), make sure the power tube tip is screwed on tight, and that the spacer or spring is in correctly. If you have a spacer, you may need a different size, if you have a spring, you may need to replace it. Go to youtube, do a search for "Tom Kaye", there is a 9 part video series of the original AutoMag video that used to come with new Mags. Each video is about 10 minutes long. Tom gets into trouble shooting around the 4th or 5th video. I'm sorry, I have no experience with Classic RTs, but a good cleaning/rebuild will usually solve a lot of your problems. Good luck

      Forgot

Forgot to mention the 1st mag with a leak down the barrrel had a level 10. I will check to see if i have any extra springs and what not. I cant remeber if they gave them to me when i had it put in up at the IAO many years ago.

I cleaned and oiled the RT and its doing the same thing, may need to getr a rebuild kit, dont think i have 1 on hand... I will check

      Thanks for the advice.

I think if you've got a level 10 leak down the barrel it has to do with the carrier O-ring, you may need to change the carrier to a smaller size. Check the Level 10 installation guide. It says to push on the tip of the bolt while it is leaking and move it around. If the tone of the leak changes while the bolt is being moved, then the o-ring is not making a good seal and you should change the carrier and/or carrier o-ring. Good luck.

Like what they said, replace the carrier oring, and possibly try a different size carrier

The Classic RT's can be a pain. Gas the gun up and stick it under water to see where the bubbles are coming from. The banjo bolt orings can be finicky, and guessing from what you are describing it sounds like they could be the leading candidate.

Make sure that the leak is not coming out of the back velocity adjuster.

If its not those, let us know.

If you are converting a classic RT from lvl7 to lvl10, purchase a new reg piston with the lvl 10 kit. The older ones will vent when you put the lvl 10 on the gun.

                air

the air is deff. comeing out of the back of the body and not the vel. adjuster. When i air it up, it doent really leak, but if i let it sit for a min. or so it will start to leak or after i shoot it a few times. Also after i turn the air off from the asa, the leak gets much greater venting off the air thats in the gun. If that tells ya anything. Im going to mess with it when i get home. Thanks for the advice.
