old noob, please advise

Whats up everyone, Wanted to get everyones opinion. I played back in high school (like 10 yrs ago or so) when the mag/cocker was some of the best guns out. I'm going to be playing again for the first time this saturday since then.

My question is about upgrades. 10 years of new technology is a bit overwhelming. I was gonna just say screw it and get a new marker with all the new electronic stuff out but after watching that guys youtube video about mag and cocker respect I started feeling a bit...well..like a sell out.

I don't smoke through alot of paint, 2k rounds per full day of play back then. but i would like to at least have the option to spray if i want.

What i have is a standard automag68 classic, old venturi bolt, dye boomstick barrel (the **** back in the day), just an average expansion chamber and a double trigger. And used to run just boring old co2.

What I plan is to get the xvalve with level 10, ULT, and a new grip and trigger and replace the co2 and old revolution hopper i have.

My only confusion is the xvalve, will that fit into my standard automag body? I like my barrel and would like to keep it and its twist lock so...yeah. Also with the HPA stuff, are there any good vertical regulators that i can use in place of the expansion chamber? and are there any other changes i need to make except regulator to use HPA? ill get the usual drop down and microline hoses (currently steel braided lines).

The Xvalve will pop into your body and work fine, unless there's something I fail to understand. You also don't need any sort of regulator for HPA. The valve works fine, in some cases best, on full output.

thnx, nah yer not missing anything, just wanted to make sure. i know all of the new bodies are cocker barrels but i like my dye barrel and its the old twist lock, so i wanted to make sure if i went with xvalve i didn't have to change bodies.

i think i'll still get a regulator though since well...it looks cool and i like to have something there for a grip. and it would like kind of stupid imo, to have a nice hpa setup and have an old expansion chamber and steel braided hoses so i might as well upgrade :) but i did read somewhere that fast shooting mags need 850-900 psi regulator or something? I know the agd flatline is of the recommended ones but was wondering if there is a equally good vertical.

I did about the same thing five years ago. After all the upgrades, the rail and the frame are original. There are now four hard working mags in the house in different forms. One is a pump mag and another is a dedicated CO2 minimag with a level 7 bolt, so I suggest you at least keep your stainless valve for 'further' projects. Even the pneumag spent two years with a classic valve.

If you get an x-valve with 'intent to paint', count on getting an HPA bottle and a force feed loader. After RT/x-valves are broken in and tuned up, you can go reactive and an agitating loader is a kill joy.

Get a gas-thru grip instead of an additional reg. Some people just take the guts out of an extra vert reg for a grip. With HPA, there is no benefit at all for an additional reg.

I think everyone that played in the late 90's and early 2000's that stopped playing for a few years and then came back got that feeling like they missed out on so much so they upgraded their mag enough to build their old mag all over again with the spare parts. That just happened to me 6 months ago when I came back...

But yeah, dont get a regulater, use use a gas thru grip. They are cheaper, lighter, and wont hurt your performance. Infact, you dont even need to use it as a "gas-thru" grip, just screw it in your vertical ASA and run a 13" hose from your valve to your tank ASA and save yourself 2 brass 90s (and 2 more chances of an air leak)

Also there is nothing wrong with steal breaded hose. I still use it on all 5 of my mags.

If you are happy with your barrel, then keeping the same body on your mag will be fine. The 3 things that make all the performace is the Xvalve, Level 10, and ULT. a grip with a blade or 2 finger trigger is an improvment as well.

I think your old Revy will probably be fine for you. I believe they feed about 12 balls a second? That is perfectly fine for a mech mag.. but then again you still have that "upgrade fever" so you'll probably get a new loader too just like we all did.

But don't worry, Take your time and upgrade your mag slowly. Because as soon as you got that mag completely how you want it... your then gonna want an Emag.. then you will think up a new mag project... etc.. etc... etc.. etc...
