HELP!! Rear thumb screw stripped in X valve

Hi everyone. I just received a mag that I bought for a friend. I actually bought it off this forum, like I do many of my items. The person of course said that there was nothing wrong with the gun, but as soon as I opened the package, the thumbscrew came out. I went to look, and the beginning of the hole is stripped in the valve. I can't get the thumbscrew to catch. Is there a simple fix to this problem? I am pretty handy, but I don't want to make it worse than it is already. Thanks everyone!!

What is a Heli coil? Sorry, not too familiar with it. Is there anyone on the forums that can fix this? Thanks

A Hili Coil is a stainless steel thread repair , you drill out existing threads , tap with thier special tap , then install a stainless steel thread insert , in most cases the new threads are many times stronger than the origional

Is this something that I can get at ACE hardware or somewhere like that? Also, is there a maximum that I can drill out without messing up the valve? Just curious if anyone knows the size threads that the valve is, and the size of the heli coil I would need to buy. Sorry I am so nube at this. I try to take care of my equipment and am extra careful so I don't have to deal with this crap>

I would go back to the guy you bought it from and try to get your $$ back! That would be the first step for a fix!

Second, I don't know the thread size for the thumb screw, (I'm sure someone does) but you can buy the Helicoil kits for that specific thread at a hardware store or on Amazon. Google "How to use a Helicoil kit" for instructions or read the box all the way through, first.
I just did one on the trigger frame hole on my TAC One body with a drill on the living room floor. It's easy, just go slow.

The gun is 1/8" of a game that is a FOOT long!
                (...but a 'mag helps)

you need a 10-32 thread helicoil set. (there are other brands, but that is what I use). Get the longer helicoil inserts if you can find them. The shorter ones will work, but I like the little extra insurance.

They will hold fine if not better than a standard alum threading. I have used hundreds of them, and have never had anything come apart after installing them.

Oh and read the directions of the set. Some stupid people dont use them right, and they will back out of the thread.

I would help, but I am not sure if I own a 10-32 helicoil set. I usually steal one of my brothers sets when I need one. (I am a cheap !@#$%, and my brother loves to buy tools.)

If you dont feel comfortable doing it pm me, and Ill look to see what I have. honestly tho a 3rd grader could do it.

I am in the process of trying to do that. If that fails though, I just want to try and figure out what I am in for. I am pretty handy, and can probably fix it, but I would rather be able to either return the valve or at least be compensated for the cost of fixing it, since there was no mention of this when we were negotiating the price. I hate when this stuff happens. He obviously knew that there was a problem, but just pawned it off as perfect condition. Not to mention the condition of the marker was far worse than discussed. I am pissed now, and just want to try and fix it, but have to wait till I hear back. Worst problem is that it is not my gun. It's my friend's now. If it was mine, I would probably just fix it, and if I screw it up, just bite the bullet. But I mess it up for him, and I am going to feel worse than I already do. I appreciate all of the help guys, and I think I understand the whole fix kit. I will google it and read up on the procedure. You guys are the best

Do the smart thing first. Get a 10/32tpi tap and run it in there. Use another field strip screw also unless you can clean up the threads on the old one. If the field screw is sloppy when you screw it into the newly chased threads then you will have to helicoil it.
