    Rail Milling

I have a question regarding milling an AM/MM rail. Is there any functional reason why the back could not be milled( or in my case hacksawed and filed) into a dovetail removing the Z-lock portion of the rail?

so you wanna cut off the back n make a dovetail from it?

only issue would be loss if the z-groove which is a safety mech.

the z-lock thing in the rail is there to prevent your valve reg from unscrewing when firing. so it really isnt a good idea if removed, unless you loctite your reg or something.

Why a dovetail ? A dovetail will be he// to make with a file & a hacksaw , it can be drilled for an ASA

I would be making a V cut into it to make it into a dovetail, not a dovetail mount. I hadn't thought about the req unscrewing... That would be one reason against doing it. Thanks. I have already done some work on the rail and was thinking about what else could be done.
