I have a few questions regarding Automag valves, I have been out of paintball for a while now and I am getting confused. What valves can use the ULT without having to be modded? What valves can use the ULT with being modded and how? What is the difference between the RT, RT Pro and X Valve? Lastly are RT/X Valve automags allowed in tournaments like PSP (reactive trigger/10.5bps)?

Valve types:
Classic
all stainless, old non reactive slow recharge design
RT Classic
first "modern" valve. Reactive, fast recharge. Takes air input through the banjo bolt. ONLY compatible with RT classic rail because of unique air input.
ReTro
stainless predecessor of the Xvalve. ADG designed it to be compatible with existing mags. Single oring in the on/off hole, requires machining to use a ULT.
RT Pro
basically the same as Xvalve.
Xvalve
Modern valve
Everything above classic is the Xvalve design. Only real difference is the ULT and whether they're stainless or not. The ReTro is the only one that has to be machined to accept the ULT. That basically involves deepening the on/off hole with a 0.375" end mill by about 0.075" ( <--the spec I'm not certain on).
Best of my knowledge, you can use any modern or modern style mag valve in any tourny as long as it's not tuned to fire automatic.

I believe SOME E-Mag valves are similar to the ReTro valve and would need to be modified to accept the ULT.
A couple of corrections to Newts post if I may.
I would not consider the Classic valve to bet a "slow recharge", it was one of the fastest recharging valves available without any drop off. It just does not have the RT effect which pushes back on the trigger after firing. Since it doesn't have the RT effect, an average person would only be able to pull 10 bps if you're lucky, but I believe it was tested at around 18 bps without shootdown.
Also, the Retro Valve is 1/2 Stainless, 1/2 Aluminum.

Thank you so much for the information. I have 2 automags, a Classic and soon i will have a RT classic. So, i can put the ULT in my classic but it would not have reactive trigger, just a lighter pull. As for the RT Classic i will most likely have to mod the valve to take ult if i want it. But how do i know?

Some people have had good experiences with ULT in a classic, others have not. There are issues with short stroking since it doesn't have any reactiveness, but you can go ahead and see if it works for you. To tell if the RT will accept the ULT, if the stock on/off has 2 o-rings and the base (around the pin) then it will take the ULT, if there is only one o-ring, then it needs to be modified.Originally posted by invisableflamesThank you so much for the information. the epl eastern paintball league doesnt allow any rt effect guns emag turns of the rt ability so emag yea... xvalve with rt no..... just ask the head of the league its smarter that way. splain if ur not bouncing it using high pressure below 800 psi it shouldnt bounce and should be legit if he complains about the rt effect its what i had to do

Are you sure about the ReTro valve being 1/2 aluminum? I have one on my mag, and I'm pretty darn sure it's 100% stainless. The back half has a dark coating I've only seen on AGD parts, but it's definitely not anodizing.Originally posted by xero28I believe SOME E-Mag valves are similar to the ReTro valve and would need to be modified to accept the ULT.

Yeah i came across the no RT rule in the EPl south myself. I thought it sucked too !! Especially since I have a hard time walking on a intelli-frame. Just doesn't seem to have enough room for my fingers.
