Level 7 bolt, LX spring

I have a level 7 bolt, and although I plan on getting a new spring, I want to see if this project will even fire. I have a long level 10 spring, and had a thought about cutting it down. Can anyone tell me if this is possible, and how much to cut off?

ive done it n it works, i cut it so that its just a bit longer than a regular lvl 7 spring, about 2 inches
