well you could at least blow the dust off...

I would think the only thing that could cause you any problem is if dirt actually got inside the valve. Which could happen through the 1/8 npt hole. But hopefully you at least had a fitting on there.

I've had markers put away for years and still work. Drop some oil in it and you'll be ok.
