    Centerflag 201 reg removal

I have looked around and can't find any info on how to get a centerflag 201 reg off. There are no wrench flats on the reg so how do you get it off?

I thought of a strap wrench but I'm not sure it will grip it tight enough. I'll give it a try. If it doesn't I'll have to look at making a tool.

I did finally get the sucker off. The strap wrench just couldn't grip it tight enough or give me enough leverge. I ended up making a tool out of a some 1- 1/2" hex stock. I could then get a wrench and a bar on it for leverage. That did the trick. There was no locktite on the threads. It turned hard for awhile which made me think I meesed up the threads in the tank. After I got the reg off the threads looked good in the tank and it spins in and out by hand.

Could you show me a pic of this tool? I too found the strap wrench to not hold so I chucked the reg in a vise lined with some rubber adn tried to turn the tank of it with the strap wrench, but the reg always ended up slipping.

Here are a few pics of the tool I made. I stripped the reg down and put 4 stainless elbows in it to torque on the reg with the tool.

Very cool home made tool. I thought about doing something like that to remove regs with , but just ended up taking the fittings out of it and clamping it between wood blocks in a vise , and using lots of heat to help with the loctite.

Anyway , great job improvising the tool.

Very cool tool. I just would have used 3" nipples.
