I've painted many a M98 in my day (I think the count is over 30 at this point) and while I've done two textured finish pieces (one in Krylon Konfetti and one in Krylon Stone Faux) I've found that the best paint for "Matte Black" is grill paint by Rustoleum. For ANY other color "Krylon Fusion" on top of automotive primer will give you a more true and long lasting color even with things like yellow or white.

Make sure you put a zincate coat on the aluminum before you paint. That will keep the metal from oxidizing and the paint will last better.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

All very good advice! Thanks guys! I've had a bunch of stuff on craigslist for about a week, no love though. I might try a FS post here and mcb.

Since our field in town moved to reballs, the market seems to have slowed. I will post pic sif I paint it!
