Tapping ASA for LPR and milling rail for hose

Anyone know of a quick tutorial on this? I can't imagine it is terribly difficult but I'm not totally sure how to do it correctly.

I'd like to pneu my mag and save a bit of cash in the process by doing that part myself.

    Any tips/input appreciated :)

you can make a setup for the asa to sit on, and use a drill press for the most accurate drilling. The setup can be as simple as some wood setup in a V, the asa sitting on that, which would help against rolling.
as for the lpr hose hole, you can probably use the same setup, but for sure you will need clamps. I would start by making a small pilot hole straight down (not deep, just enough to keep the drill bit from slipping), after the pilot is made, then rotate the asa so the lpr hole is vertical, then drill, slowly

Do you know what bit I need to use to drill the hole for the LPR?

I'd probably do 1/8's first, and see how the fit is, then move up a size if needed.
Also, be careful so that you don't drill into any air passages or screw holes.
I would only do it on an am/mm style asa, as theyre longer and have more space.

I've done it a few times, it's quite easy if you have access to a drill press, tho I have done it without. Start with a small bit, size isn't that important, only that it is small. 1/8th as BN3 says, is a decent size. Clamp your asa in a vice, draw a line all the way around the asa, centerd with the existing hole.. Use a punch and punch a mark where you want the hole. Put something in the asa if you can (wood or plastic) so you can tell when you've gone through. If not just do little bits at a time to make sure you don't start drilling into the other side of the asa :)

Once you've got your first hole, Use a "R" Sized drill bit. (0.339 inch) or whatever you have close to that. Drill through. You can dress it up nice by using a 1/2 inch bit to take the edge off, but this is for looks only. Splash the hole with some cutting oil, or paintball marker oil if you don't have cutting oil, really you can use any oil. Then with your 1/8th NPT tap, slowly (and straight) work your Tap in, backing it out a quarter turn for every full turn, to free any plugged up threads you might get. Once you're through (the tap is about 1/8th inch through), back the tap out, sand the outer edge a bit so it's not so sharp (don't need to do this if you used your 1/2 inch to bevel the hole) Run it under HOT water to remove all cutting oils and metal shavings. Connect your tank to it to blow any remaining water/oil/metal particles out of the ASA. Put it back on hook it all up and have fun :)

If you are still chicken, you can send it to me and I'll do it for you, you just have to pay for the shipping both ways..

Thanks for the detailed description and offer! I have a 15* ASA so I need to think carefully about the angle too..

Yup a nice level can go a long way. :) You could also put the LPR on your gripframe ASA. Unless you have a drop and don't wana run a bunch of hose :)

Was hoping for some expert advice and this is what I kinda figured :) I'm tempted to try to sleeper it honestly, I think it looks the best.. I'm just not totally sure yet.

                    Thanks for the input, Luke.
