    Mag classic refurbish

Hey all. I have a classic mag that I am bringing back to life. I have been piddling with it for a while but I think I'm gonna get serious and get the gun right.

First, I just picked up a ule center feed. The feed neck and detent are angel threaded so Im good there. I will be using the classic valve and rail so I need to get the barrel lock pin gone. Here is where I need help.

    1) I have a standard single trigger frame that works well with my current configuration. No chuffs or sticking of the on/off. Basically works well aside from the heavy classic pull. I have a benchmark double trigger frame that I have with a classic pro (needs valve rebuild). I tried to put the benchmark on my classsic but I couldnt get the trigger adjusted right. There was a lot of up and down play with the adjuster rod and if I held it at wierd angles (like sideways gangster shooting) it seemed to work ok. Is there some trick to getting this thing set up right? Do I need to add a wedge to remove some of the up and down movement?

    2) Can I put an AGD Intelliframe on a classic valve? I have my eye on one but I didnt want to buy it without knowing if it works on a classic valve. Im not ready to go xvalve yet....

    anyway, thanks for the input

To answer the easy one first: Yes, you can use an intelliframe with a classic valve, no issues there.

Now as for the benchmark frame...When you say "classic pro", are you talking about a Classic RT, or just a standard classic automag? If it's an RT, then there is a difference in the frame where the hole for the field strip screw will be larger and may cause some issues. If not, then you may just need to adjust the length of the trigger rod. This is easy, just remove the trigger frame and either unscrew or screw in the rod until it rests about 1/16" away from the trigger when the gun is aired up. I usually do it with some needle nose pliers with the frame still on and the gun gassed up so I can see how far it is without having to take off/put on the frame. The geometry of the Benchmark frame may be a little different than a standard frame, so this may be the case. Good luck.

Its just a black powdercoated classic valved automag that was called "pro classic". the one I have has the standard mech benchmark frame. I think Ill try the needle nose trick again. Maybe I was just being impatient..

Yes. All mag frames fit all rails.

The problems you are having with the benchmark frame are normal. You can fix the looseness by placing shims at the sides of the trigger where the trigger pin holds the trigger in place. Once that is done, you will be able to properly adjust your trigger rod to work as it should. Without the shims, there is a lot of slop in the benchmark triggers. That extra slop means you can't adjust the trigger rod to as much precision.

When adjusting the trigger rod, put the safety on first. Then with the trigger held against the safety, adjust the trigger rod (sear rod) out until it almost touches the back of the trigger. There should be a gap of about a credit card thickness.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
