need help with something electrical

why it no worky? Its a really simple board set up and im confused as to why it wont work. I replaced the led's on it with a different color and this is what it currently looks like.

Are the connections proper? what is wrong with it? i am guessin the black is power and that the white is ground but i could be wrong.

Black is usually the ground isn't it? Try swapping it around and see what happens

So what exactly are you trying to make it do? Have a schematic chart or something? I can see you've got LEDs and resistors in a parallel configuration, but I don't know what kind of power signal is coming through the wires, or in which direction.

neither do i. I am guessin that the power is 5v or 12v coming through the wire to the led. and i am not sure what direction the power is coming or going.

I took the other leds off and put these straight on. I desoldered the pins to pull off the old led's and slid these into place. they were both 5mm led's

why wont the board work now? any ideas?

Still, what are you trying to build with it? Lights that turn on to what?

I'll start with the basic questions, maybe you've already checked on them ( and bear with me since my electronics-ology is a little rusty. )

Are the DIODES aligned correctly? They only work one way.

Have you used a meter to find the voltage and current of the source? If so what is it?

How many ohms are those resistors?

no idea on the ohm because i swapped the led's off a board i bought.

the diodes are correct because the polarities that i installed them in are equivalent to the ones i took out. the +/- are in the same spot

the purpose of the board is to light up when turned on so that the xbox glows with my smoke shell i put on it.

I am guessing that the white is the power now that i remember black is usually ground but i did not make the board. it worked previously. i think it has to do with the soldering points... the 3 under each led.

Hey darkblade. It's better to run the wires through the fan and not the CD rom.

Unless you have a wire schematic then NM but every 360 mod that I've seen has them pull the power from the fan connector.

once again... i did not make this set-up. i simply swapped the led diodes

i could technically take the power wire and ground wire off and tap them into the fan but i still have no idea as to polarity and why it wont light.

if i had to guess... the ohm on the resistors is 290 i used a resistor identifier

i also would guess that the white is power at 12v but i do not have a voltage tester

I'm with this idea. It appears that each pair of LEDs are in series with a current limiting resistor. Even the wrong resistor would allow some light to be emitted. However, if even one of the two LEDs are reversed, you will get nothing out of that series combination. As mentioned, the LEDs only allow current flow in one direction. It is critical that the polarities are correct. You can check them with an ohm meter.

i tried the led's the other way around. They do not work that way either. i am completely lost as to what the problem is

even if the resistors are too low or too high i should get light still because if its too low it will be faint, it they are too high i will just get a very bright almost overloaded diode correct?

maybe it is just me, but the lights looked to be set up in a series, not parallel. Maybe i am just wrong

You need to find yourself a multimeter, then someone should be able to help you.

It looks like you have parallel and series setup. Also what color were the old LEDs and what is the new ones. Going from red LEDs to blue or white will need a higher voltage before any visible light is seen. 5 volts may just be under what is required.
