Ok so I'm a little perplexed about this. Yesterday I was chopping paint like it was my business with the Mag. My Quest was broken, but my PMR shot paint fine. It wasn't the paint, it wasn't the barrel. So I did a little finger test with the lvl 10 and noticed that although it certainly was chuffing, it was hitting pretty hard. I haven't tuned this thing in a while, what exactly to I need to do to get it gentler on paint? Different mainspring? Shims?
Massive ball breakage WITH Lvl 10!

The only thing that adjusts the impact force on the ball is a stiffer bolt spring. Perhaps yours is worn out. That would make it hit harder. Bolt springs do wear out. They are a consumable item.
Even the shortest bolt spring is usually fairly gentle if you hold something against the face of the bolt. If you allow the bolt to travel 1/4" before it strikes, then it will hit with full force.
Have you checked your detents? A broken detent can also have a negative effect on ball breakage.Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

Describe your set up.
What spring, carrier, how many shims, valve, fps, etc ....
A quick fix might be to change the spring to the next longer one and adjust your velocity up till your in the right range again.

Yea I might try a longer bolt spring. My powertube setup is pretty much sweetspotted for zero bolt stick, no leakage, and quick bolt return. I don't think it's the shims or carrier. I'm running a classic valve at 280fps. I think I might have the red short spring in there right now. That might be the problem.

If re-tuning your lvl 10 doesn't ck out. Look at your detents. Could be worn, weak or blown.

Good call. My detent seems fine though, the spring is very responsive and it sticks out the right distance into the breach. I just put in the medium spring and it seems to work. I put my finger in the breach and it felt a lot gentler, and when I put a ball on the end of a piece of duct tape and put it in there, it didn't even dimple it.

The red spring is the middle spring. The short gold spring is the hardest on paint. The long silver spring is the softest on paint but doesn't always work at a low enough velocity range for some users. The red spring should be the same length as the silver spring. If it is noticeably shorter, it could be worn out.Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
