Quieting a mag and other questions

ok so what factors affect how quiet a mag is? Is it just barrel or is there something in the valve/reg that if not set right will make it louder? (this is a pneumag if it makes a difference.)

Also, on a relating note to pneumags, if i can't walk the trigger, would a longer trigger pin help? (the current pin only sticks out about 1/4 of an inch out, so it is a super short trigger pull, but i shortstroke and chuff a lot.)

i dont know about quieting one but the pneumag part its in the trigger rod, and the lpr pressure. you have to have the rod polished so it doesnt stick and the length has to give you a little play so it doesnt fire with the safety on. On the lpr turn it down till it doesnt fire then slowly turn it up until it fires and give it about 1/4 turn extra, that should get you the lightest possible pull, then if you have a magnet mod you should set that as close as you can so it forces the trigger back the fastest... This is how I set my pneumags up and i can usually hit 13-15 bps consistently i also put a qev in but its not really needed since the msv-2 has one built in, I just like the little pop sound they make.

Not a pnuemag expert, but the the best thing to quiet your marker is a barrel with good porting. The more extensive the porting the quieter, but you are going to lose some efficiency.

I think the barrel is probably the biggest factor in quieting any marker. Obviously some platforms are inherently quieter, but a good 14"+ barrel with plenty of porting will definitely help out. I've found that number of shots taken is more important to sound signature than the marker itself.

The barrel is pretty much it for sound signature. Selecting good porting and the proper length is critical.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

a 14" DW barrel is a nice choice, I get lots of comments on how quiet my mag is.

one other thing on the noise topic is this. I find that my mag sounds a lot louder when i'm holding it and firing it that it actually is.

I let a friend play a couple of games with my marker the other day and afterward i had to ask if he'd even fired a shot.

I always though my mag was really really loud but apparently it isn't.

On the short stroking your pneu like has been said it sounds like you could use a longer trigger rod and magnets if you don't have them. Also the trigger you're using does it have stops? This was the big final step in getting my pneu right was setting the trigger stops. I was short stroking every other shot simply because of the extra trigger travel before i set my trigger stops.

Detailed pics of the pneu setup would be useful in helping fine tune it.

Ditto on the DW 14". Very quiet.

As for the pneu and short stroking... It may NOT be the marker at all. Pneumags take some time to get used to. Anyone who played with a cocker back in the day had to learn not to short stroke it. Making sure you have a "full" pull and release of the trigger is critical! The mag mod will help rebound the trigger faster to help if you're fingers are going too fast. If your fingers go faster that the MSV-2 can reset (for whatever reason) then you will short stroke.
