    *Sigh* So Lost....

Alright guys I need to know everything, and I mean everything about the Level 10 Bolt, ULT On/Off, X Valve, and the Tac One in general. I need to know about the general maintainence, cleaning, and adjustment of all these parts. Links would be great! Here are some of my specific questions:

How many shims should my ULT On/Off have?
Is more or less shims ideal?
    What exactly are "carriers"?
How do I know which one I should be using and which one is ideal?
Which spring should I be using in the Level 10? Which spring is ideal and how do I go about finding that out?
My Automag is leaking, it sounds like it's coming from the On/Off.
I haven't replaced the o-rings yet but is there anything else it could be besides the o-rings?
What is a good rebuild kit for my Tac One?
Does the ULT use ULT specific o-rings?
Or does it use normal on/off o-rings?
Where could I buy a Tac One rebuild kit for cheap?
The feedneck is Angel threaded isn't it?
Can I just screw a feedneck right in if I take off my Longbow adapter?

I'm really lost, any help would be appreciated.

    1) ULT shims are installed as needed. Once everything else in the mag is fully functional, you add extra ULT shims to make the mag more responsive. Keep adding shims until the gun goes full auto or the bolt sticks. Then remove the 1 that caused the problem.

    2) There is no ideal, only ideal for you.

    3) Carriers are brass spacers that fit in the powertube on the front of the valve. They have different inside diameters that allow you to change the amount of tension the oring exerts on the bolt stem. Too much tension, and the bolt will stick and the gun will not fire or reset properly. Too loose, and the gun will leak air out the front.

    4) Use the largest carrier that does not produce a leak. Since you are sizing the oring, make sure you use the same white oring each time you change a carrier size.

    5) The bolt spring depends on your setup. If you are shooting lower velocities and/or have a barrel system that is efficient, then your mag may operate at a lower chamber pressure. A lower chamber pressure may not allow you to use the longer bolt springs. Most people use the red spring successfully. The gold spring is the weakest spring and will work on all guns. The red spring is the middle spring and should work on most guns. The long silver spring, is the stiffest, but may not work at a low enough velocity.

To find the best spring, turn your velocity down all the way. Then gradually increase it until the gun just starts to cycle. Check the velocity. Now adjust the velocity up 20 fps higher than this lowest value. That is your optimum setting. If it is quite a bit too low, then install the next stiffer spring and repeat the procedure. If the velocity is too high, go to the next lighter spring and repeat. You should be shooting about 20 fps above the lowest setting that the gun will cycle at for optimum performance.

    6) A leak in the on-off is most likely a piece of dirt. Clean the area out with a cloth that does not leave dust or pieces of lint behind.

    7) Mags are oring dependent. The orings wear out but because there is little metal to metal contact, nothing else does. That being said, there are a couple of wear parts. Bolt springs are a consumable item and will wear out after a while. You'll start short stroking for no apparent reason when this happens. The sear will eventually wear, but it takes a long time. The mag will start to go full auto or start leaking down the barrel.

Almost forgot to mention bumpers. The clear bumpers will wear quickly on some guns. If you have some rubber epoxy, glue it to the face of the valve. It will keep it from stretching and tearing when the bolt hits it.

    8) Get a complete X valve oring kit and an extra bolt spring. Make sure you have all your carriers.

    9) The ULT has specific ULT orings that are not in the regular oring kit.

    10) Call Tunaman for your oring kits.

    11) The feedneck is angel threaded.

    12) I assume the longbow just screws into the angel threaded body, but I don't know for sure.

athomas, thanks again for being so helpful. I'm always impressed by this community. I'll have to give "Tunaman" a call. I just have one more question:

Do you know of any good reads/videos on the Tac One/X-Valve/ULT? I want all the knowledge I can get!

Most knowledge is just accumulated from reading the posts here and by observing the valve and its operation. Look at the diagrams in the tech section on the airgun.com web site. Don't be afraid to take your valve apart and get familiar with the inner workings. Same with the body, rail, and trigger assembly.

Here is a link to a ULT thread that may help.

Thanks, I saw that thread but it kind of stinks because the pictures no longer work. Oh well! I know everything I need to now! Thanks again!
