Bumper Question - I should know the answer by now, but...

At the field yesterday, I found that the clear bumper on one of my X-valves had pretty much turned to jelly. What was the only thing I didn't have 5+ of in my parts kit? Of course, R/T bumpers. I tossed an orange Classic/lvl7 bumper on there (it seemed a little softer than the blue ones I had) and cut it down to size with my shiny new SK (thanks DM). I didn't have a problem with ROF and it didn't effect the lvl10 so chopping wasn't an issue. At the end of the day the bumper seemed to be in good shape.

Obviously I'm ordering more R/T bumpers, but I'm wondering if it was a bad idea to put the stiffer Classic/lvl7 bumper in there? Any longterm potential for problems?

heheheheee... I was going to post today to see how everyone is liking the SK...

    tooooo funny!

I run the blue ones in all of my stuff... I hate how fast the clear ones wear out...

I don't know if TK will say otherwise, but I'd run blue.

oooops.. didn't read it properly... how much are you going to use it between now and when the new bumpers come in? I'm sure it'll be fine. Though I don't knwo what "orange" ones you are talking about.

I love the SK, so does the recipient of the 2nd one. Wicked good.

As for the "orange ones", I've got a parts kit that includes several dealers kits, individual parts from unused markers, and individual parts kits. In my "classic/lvl7" bumpers parts tray, I've got smooth blue bumpers and textured orange/salmon ones... I know they didn't come in an individual parts kit, and I've had'em for some time. No clue as to their origin. I'll take some pics.

I've never seen orange ones before, either. Maybe they are aftermarket parts.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

          They could be discolored.

They've been orange since I got them (new) and believe me they were never blue.

              Sorry for the crappy quality.

The pic makes the orange one look smaller but they're the same size all around; that's mostly due to the angle and background. The only difference is that the orange ones are slightly softer.

You can super glue the clear ones to the valve which greatly extends the life of the bumper. Just be sure to clean the face of the valve with acetone or something similar. I've used the blue ones without glue and have never had the need to change them...

I figured it wouldn't be a big deal, but I've been careful to use R/T bumpers on R/T valves for years and I figured there was a reason they were different.
