    please teach me

Ok, so I think I've got my mag built.

I'm keeping a classic with level 10 and an RT on/off. I have a few parts I need to order to fix up the mags I'm not keeping - so it's a good time to buy spare parts for the one I am.

What parts would you keep on hand to keep the mag above running?

I know that the Rt on/off and the Lv10 mean I need different parts than the classic parts kit.

Is the Lv10 power tube o-ring the same as the small RT on/off o-ring? they look similar. Is the Lv10 bolt spring different than the classic bolt spring?

Any suggestions for a basic parts kit for the above mag would be appreciated. It's running great - just needs a new bolt spring at this point (it doesn't reset all the way occasionally).

    thanks in advance.

Consider parting the mags you arent keeping vs fixing them up.

I always keep a set of spare o-rings around, extra barrel nubbins for the twistlock/detents for ULE, I also keep an extra field strip screw and frame screw in case you drop or lose em. Actually, I pretty much keep an entire extra mag (or 5) for back up.

I'm pretty sure for that setup you'll need both the x-valve parts kit and the classic parts kit to have all your necessary parts. Without the classic parts kit you won't have any regulator seats, and I think the RT on/off o-rings will be different.

Plus if you get the x-valve kit you'll have extra foamies and shims for your level 10.

I'm pretty sure the level 10 PT o-ring is unique. Keep the next smaller carrier handy (at least). A stock bolt spring is tunable, especially if you just wore out your old one. Bolt bumpers can go down fast if you get them sticking to the back of the bolt.

Other than the rebuild kits, I think you have to break something by over-tightening or loosing it.

Don't stock up on a bunch of rebuild kits. The urethane can get old on the shelf. I think it does better covered in synthetic oil.

Find the size of the orings that you need and order a few of each. You should have at least a couple of classic regulator seat orings, a set of orings to fit the retro on-off assembly plus a couple of powertube carrier orings and a regulator piston assembly oring. The blue classic bumpers usually last forever, but keep an extra one of those around too. Get a couple of bolt springs, a red one and and a stock one. The stock one will allow you to shoot in all situations while maintaining anti-chop capabilities. If you have a twist lock body, get a couple of plastic nubbins. That should do it. Check to see what sizes are available in the parts kits. It may be cheaper to buy one of those and supplement it with the rest or it may be better to buy them individually .
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

turns out the Rt on/off and the Lv10 PT o-ring are the same. I love you TK.

anyway, thanks for the advice - I think I'm pretty close to a nice working mag.

Anyone know where I can get a Lv10 bolt spring? they're out at AGD and Tunamart.

Oh, and question on the Lv10 carrier. What are the different sizes for? they say for variations in o-ring size.

The variations in oring sizes cause them to be loose or tight on the bolt stem. The bolt stem was manufactured to default on the loose size. The carriers can then compress the oring to tighten the inner diameter. Smaller sized carriers make the inner diameter smaller. That way, you can adjust the size of the oring by changing carriers.

got it, so it's the ID on the pocket on the rear of the carrier. cool, makes sense.
