Chasing tapped threads

I bought a frame off here a while back and finally put my rail drop on it. I noticed the front most hole requires some torque to get the screw in so I am guessing the threads are a little twisted. The screw isn't loose but tight. The other tapped hole is perfect.

Should I bother chasing the threads or just leave it be?

Id just run a 10-32 tap through it and see if that didnt fix it

As long as you run the tap through straight, it shouldn't hurt the hole. It would only cut metal if there was a problem.

So go for it, just make sure not to cross thread the tap and use some lubrication.

It may have some paint or loctite left in it. You might try cleaning it before you lube it.

Go for it. The old trick is to make like you're going to thread it in, but turn it backwards (lefty-tightie) until you hear and feel it "click" with the thread. That'll keep you from cutting new metal.
