We all know that the Smart Mag box is just a gimmick but I was thinking about an actual use for that extra hole in the valve. If one install a gauge into it, would it measure the pressure from the reg part behind it on the valve?
Smart Mag?

It would measure it. You need an oil dampened gauge though. Most of the basic micro gauges we have will be hammered into malfunction after a relatively short while. If you make it a steam punk mag, you can use a nice large one.Originally posted by mpsdWe all know that the Smart Mag box is just a gimmick but I was thinking about an actual use for that extra hole in the valve. Putting a gauge there would give you a measurement of the post-regulated air pressure, which is kinda cool, but I think spider might be right, that gauge will be flickering from 0-500psi every time the trigger is pulled.
Are there ANY microgauges out there designed to read a rapidly fluctuating pressure like that?

That's the idea, actually. I mean, reading the post regulated pressure would allow one to better set the fps speed and read the fluctuations. It would also help you know when the air or CO2 is low in the tank.
About it going up and down as you shoot, no one would actually read it during game action, I think.

It should get you in the ballpark on velocity. As far as a fill indicator, it will be too late by the time you see the change in the dump chamber. Like a bad low-battery indicator; "low, oh wait, gone". The regulator should hide the lowering pressure until it's too late.
If you hold the trigger down, you will see your residual chamber pressure and any slow on/off leaks.
If you try a regular micro gauge, look for one with just a pinhole for a port at least. The oil filled ones should last longer. The older ones with like a 0.1" port in them will get whacked quickly.

That's a pretty good diea.Originally posted by factoidHere's an idea...put a stainless hose elbow fitting on it and use a slide check. You could use a nice oil pressure gauge and also be able to remove it if you don't feel like turning your mag into a one-eared mickey mouse.sigpicAll hail MAGpie, the MAGnificent, MAGnanimous
