    Powertube oring?

I am having one heck of a time getting my LX broken in and happy. Every time it starts leaking and I attempt to go to the smaller size carrier the bolt leak will just get worse. I am using plenty of oil, etc. just seems the only thing I can do about every case of balls or so is to swap the powertip oring and start over. I do some minor tuning just to get it to seat and it's good for another 2500 balls or so.

Today I had the issue and was out of the white type oring. I happened to have a black buna oring and it actually worked really well. I figure, if I am going to be changing these things out every few bags of paint, I might as well source a large lot of the cheaper buna rings.

So, what size or number is the powertube oring?

I 'think' the one I used today was one of the tail shaft rings from a dm6, but am not sure. Worked pretty well after shooting the marker a hundred or so times, and using a generous amount of dow33 on it. I know it won't last.

Do not use any type of grease in the mag except on the reg springs...it will gunk up the bolt and spring making things worse

Can you run us through how you assembled it? What carrier did you start with? Do you have any shims in there?

K, I take the new oring and generally will put it in the two dot carrier and slide the bolt over to see if it is loose or tight. Accordingly I will adjust and assemble and test shoot a few hundred times in order to do the initial wear till it leaks. Go down one carrier from there and shoot away. Normally, about a case or so later, it will leak again. I take that same ring, put it into the next size smaller carrier and it will still leak. According to whether I am already at the smallest carrier I will either keep going down, or start over with a new ring and try again.

The issue that I have been having is that when I go to the smaller carriers the leak will not stop. I have been through a half dozen urethane rings now out of two different batches of rings.

Tuna, thanks for the tip. I am using an insane small amount (generous for one ring, but still just a dot), but if it is harmful, I will stop.

I have long since had the shims setup at 3. At 4 I get a bolt face leak. At 2 it doesn't chuff quite when I would like it to. None of the shims are bent so far as I can tell.

Not in my experience. It works great if the grease is very thin and applied sparingly. I have been doing it for a while now with slick honey. I still use oil though. Never had a gunk up problem.

Do not use dow grease! It is way to tacky and will gum up like tuna said. I use slick honey(different base and thickener than dow 33) and apply it very thin to the entire bolt and the on/off. Even after 4 cases and two oilings the grease i used was still there and slick.

Just the way i do things and it has served me well. i use the grease to prevent the excessive metal to metal where on the bolt and power tube, if it even helps. But i like the way it cycles(not so noisy) with the grease as well, it is probably the placebo effect though.

I hate the level 10 and i only use it because the L7 has been causing barrel brakes at high rates of fire(over 15BPS), and i like to ripp on my marker.

The easiest fix is a L7 bolt and a force fed hopper. But if the LX is what you want then these guys will get you fixed up.

Based on the number of shims you are using, I suspect that is part of the problem you are having. Under normal operation, you should have no problems, even without any shims installed. If you are having reset problems that are fixed by adding shims, then something else is causing the problems and the shims are only a temporary fix. Usually these temp fixes result in some sort of bolt stick or leaking after a bit of time. Try tuning your gun without the shims and see if it works better once tuned.

I don't know what size the oring is, but I do know that the buna orings do work very well. The soft pliable nature of the buna allows them to seal well without adding a lot of friction force on the bolt stem. They just won't last as long as the urethane ones.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
