Twistlock Assembly won't fit AM/MM rail

    Hi there,

I'm currently trying to insert a twistlock assembly into a standard AM/MM rail. I have a couple of spare assemblys, and they all promptly refuse to fit properly. The rail is pretty much brand new.

It seems that the middle part of the assembly is slightly too wide, or that the hole in the rail is slightly too narrow. The upper part of the assembly is not an issue. since it will fit if I insert the assembly the other way around.

So, is it supposed to be this fiddly to insert an assembly into a new rail? And what's the solution? Brute force?

Soft pine and a large mallet. Be sure to take out the spring/pin/grubscrew first.

I've also taken to using some sand paper rolled up or running a fine round file into the whole a few time to open it slightly. Haven't noticed any adverse effects from doing this yet. If there is a reason not to, feel free to correct me.

If you beat it in you run the risk of bending the rail. These really need to be pressed in with an arbor press...

I just used the hydrolic press in the shop. effortless, took a couple seconds.. just make sure you press it in the right way. I had a rail were the previous owner had pressed it all the way through the bottom to get it out.

Okay sort of along the same lines as the original poster, but I want to remove the quick lock. So am I to understand from reading that it is to be pressed down from the top of the rail?

NO NO NO, to install it you press it down from the top of the rail.

to remove it you have to press it out from the bottom. a shop press will take a couple seconds, Its like a slight cone fit, so once its pressed out a little it basically falls out.

Thanks for the advice, guys. After a few weeks of full time job AND some heavy exams, I finally had some time to tinker with my pile of Mags again.

I solved it by using the tube of another gutted Twistlock Assembly, put on top of the one I wanted to install. After that, some pressure, and gentle tapping did the trick, making the procedure to be quite gentle on the assembly I wanted to install.

                Again, thanks for the answers!
