Soooo... went to take down a recently acquired emag for cleaning. As I was taking the top of the trigger magnet out (not on the trigger but in the frame), I pulled it from the bottom and grabbed the magnets from the top. Got one hell of a jolt, not sure how or if it was even electricity. My question is, there are 2 two magnets, and then a whole bunch of black goo on top, in that order. The black goo is in between two copper colored circles that appear to have been together. Is there 3 magnets in the top of the trigger in the frame assembly, because if so, my 3rd fell apart. Or if not, whats the black goo? Can I touch it again or will I get another "jolt"? Not sure what to do here, advice is appreciated..
Magnets in trigger question

You probably grounded yourself on the terminal.
As for the magnets. It all depends how you like your trigger. You can have as many as you want, till it starts interfering with your body. The goo might be some kind of glue. People usually install small orings or washers as well to adj the strength of the magnets on the trigger..

Not sure why you got a jolt. For safety sake pull the battery off the frame and pull the trigger a few times to drain any stored voltage.
I usually put the selector switch into M and pull the trigger to take the magnet in the top of the trigger away from the magnets in the frame. Then I use an allen wrench to attract the magnets, they always lift right out.
As for the black goo, I have no idea what it could be unless the old owner used something to hold the magnets in place.
Ando is correct, the idea behind the magnet stack it to adjust the trigger pull to our liking. For a very light trigger some people do put a small o-ring in before the first magnet to space it way from the trigger magnet. This is all for adjustibility.
Hope this helps.......You know you want one!!

I am in the same boat as you. Bought a Emag used, tore it down to give it a good going over, clean and lube. I had three magnets in my frame. while I didn't recieve a jolt like you I did notice that the gold coating on all but one of my magnets had rusted off or disintergrated, leaving a pool of rust mixed with oil and the gold coating. Gooey and hard to clean off.

Huh. Not sure what that means honestly (not familiar with electric terms), but ok. And it was on top is the weird thing, in between two circles of metal. My father said it looked like iron shavings.
And neither am I, I had the battery out but didn't check to see if the board had any stored electricity. But awesome to hear that trick, probably alot easier than spending 5 minutes with a dental pick.
And ok on adjust ability. Thank you both.
And so are the magnets little pieces of metal or something contained inside the gold coating in the form of a circle 155mmpaladain? Because I wonder if I had 3 magnets and one fell apart, leaving the black goo. Dunno.
Ty people.

Don't know what the magnets are made of, but after the gold coating came off the magnets left behind were a little smaller than the one that was still in good condition.

The smooth shiny coating on the magnets can come apart when the surface coating cracks and the magnets rust. The copper colored circles were probably remnants of the magnet coverings. The goo could be any combination of oil, rust, old paintballs, and dirt. Clean the hole out and tune the trigger force to your liking using a combination of magnets and/or spacers. Small orings make nice spacers.Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
