Am I crazy? Classic valve mod

So, I was thinking of a simple mod to the classic valve. When you look at a cutaway, or animated diagram of a classic valve, you see that the airflow must first move from the air inlet, through the regulator down a passage, and finally end up at our restrictive on/off assembly. My thinking was, and correct me if im wrong, but one could drill a hole perpendicular to the valve that went through the air passage, and into the center where the inlet resides, initially bypassing the regulator stage and providing the initial burst of hpa needed to quickly reset the trigger as well as quickly fill the dump chamber. My question for all of you brains is, will the regulator still regulate the incoming air even if its down stream of the reg? If so, will that negate any positive initial effect of having the unregulated air dump next to the on/off pin? Granted, the hole would have to be drilled from the outside in, threads would need to be tapped and a plug inserted from the outside to seal the thing. Worst case the new passage created would have to be threaded at the same time and could be plugged as well, returning the function to stock. Gimme your ideas, am I crazy?

    crazy.
the reg would not continue to regulate air if you bypased it with a second passage.
You would have to use regulated input... this defeating the purpose of the idea.

Ahhh thank you. Sometimes I need someone to help me keep my delusional mechanical pipedreams in check.

You replace the back of the A.I.R. valve, but you have to run a regulator into it.

Yeah, but that would still work like a classic valve and still have the same slower recharge as the classic.
I think the original poster is talking about a mod that effectively turns about turning a classic into an RT.

While I do believe you could get a classic mag to have a reactive trigger, you could never get the awesome recharge flowrate without the pressure feedback like an RT valve has.

Yeah exactly pnuemagger. I was just thinkin of a way to really improve recharge rate as well as trigger bounce. Would giving the on/off assembly air from an external inline reg be all that different than using the valve built in reg? Ill admit a bouncy trigger would be awesome, but im pretty sure the old a.g.d. reg was a pretty darn good one, and not all that slow to recharge anyway. Most people on here seem to think that the on/off is the choke point, I was just hoping to perhaps find a way to get even more air to the on/off pin, which would help with reactivity, but would still have to be regulated before entering the dump chamber. My mind is all twisted up trying to find a simple enough way to do this. I know, just buy an rt or x valve, but im a tinkerer, and this intrigues the heck out of me.

Reactivity is a compnent of two factors: unregged input pressure and stepped on/off pins. If you make the step in the pin large enough, you should be able to compensate for lack of unregulated input to still achieve reactility. Typically, unregulated pressure is only 2X-3X operating pressure (unless you're using a scuba tank). Picking up 2X-3X MORE on off top area should be doable.

I'm in the process of working on this. I hope beta test units make it out in the coming week.

Yeah, I saw those, and would love to see how they work out in a classic valve. You do nice work.
