Itty Bitty ULT oring replacement

How are you supposed to replace the small oring in a ULT. The tiny black one on the shaft. I usually just slide it up and over the end of the pin and oil and replace with new oring. Does the shaft actually come apart? I don't want to break it.

You should be able to just push the black oring over the tip and it does come apart. Little heat and pull the end off.
