    x-valve coloration

bedsides re-annoing what can cause a fronthalf of a x-valve to be a different shade then the back half?

-the valve has not been re-anno'd
-they are both origional fronts and back from factory.
    -serials match of course.

    are they two different aluminums
    6061 & 7075

    thanks,
    KNM

surface prep off the parts, say if someone acetoned the front half and forgot the back or vice versa

I'm involved with the SAE baja team at RIT and we get our brake calipers annoed all the time, We wet sand and acetone the parts first, but I don't know if the our supplier preps them also. I'll try to get more info.

If it's a lighter shade it may have been baked, not sure if people still do that but for a while people were baking their guns to fade the anno, no idea what that does to the anno integrity though.

Ah in the case of colored ones, like you mentioned the front and back are different types, and take color differently, and will be more noticeable with colors.
Think most colored valves I've seen that were factory didn't have that issue though

The blue was the worst for parts not matching. I dont ever recall any other color giving AGD so many problems.

I've also owned 2 blue X-valves, factory anno, and the halves never match up just right. Close, but not identical.

This topic has been brought up before and the consensus was the back and fronts were different metal grades.

Not sure if someone was talking out their ass or not but...makes perfect sense
