ULE polishing

Stripped a ULE body that I have and started polishing it. Oddly, the milling seems to be rather rough on the body and as I am polishing it, it is getting sort of wavy. Anyone else run into this? Wondering if I didnt strip it well enough and am having to polish through some clear ano or something. Its been really slow going. Body was pewter and the ano came off REALLY easily. Normally, I have had to spray anodized peices several times before they are ready to polish, but the ano came off in one spray and after only sitting for a few minutes.

I noticed the anno was very thin on my ULE as well. I would start with a bit bigger grit to get rid of the machining marks before polishing.

I wasnt sanding it, just buffing it out. Used a spiral sewn wheel and black compound. It is taking forever making me think there was still a layer of anodizing on it. When I tried hitting it with sandpaper it didnt seem to do much actually. Very odd, seems to be harder aluminum than is on other parts like frames, foregrips etc.

I had the same problem with the ule body I stripped.
had an even bigger problem with my 2k9 body.
That was the hardest, thickest layer of Ano I ve had to remove.

its all about the compounds.

i have not run into this problem in many of my polishings,

so i pretty sure you know the right compounds to use. how hot is the body getting when you are buffing.

how big is your buffer and buffing wheels?

how bad was this body that you are starting with black compound?
thats a no so good start right there.

i have had my guys stripp anno off with black compound. not sure how the anno would stand up to black.

I tried lighter compounds and it didnt do much of anything. I really believe there is some ano left. Might try restripping it and go at it again. I'm only using a 1/2 hp buffer, but seems to do everything else fine. All the other parts that I have stripped and polished have worked out fine.

yeah that is definently where i would start, restrip go at it.

i was going to say you could send me your parts too strip and i can send them in with mine but you are kinda far for that to be any conveniece to you.

Ghetto strip = Easy off.

Drano works great as well.
But the stuff caswell plating sells is amazing, and the best I've used.
